I need some assistance.

I have taken some photos on my Canon SX500 IS camera and I want to move the photos to my Google photos account. Except my laptop is not playing ball.

All files are on a SDHC card. The camera does not support Wi-Fi function. Help? :/

The lead from your camera to the laptop.

When you say not playing ball , what do you mean?

Does the laptop recognise the camera ? are you getting any errors ?

I don't know how is a laptop supposed to play ball and how it is related (google also didn't help me understanding the idiom in that context) but can't you just use an usb card reader? They are cheap and should do the trick. Just make sure they read SDHC cards because some older card readers might not.

laptop not playing ball as in, i can't even sign in to windows at the minute. Ie, i cannot use (unrelated to plugging in the camera or inserting the SD card to the laptop as can't really get that far right now)

But i've discovered you can get card readers that will plug into your phone. I'm wondering if they have usb 3 ones yet? :-/

If the phone is plugged into laptop with USB cable (and unlocked) it's filesystem is accessible to drop files.

SD readers that plug into laptop with USB are cheap. Take those together, you can transfer photos from SD to phone

USB card readers are cheap and widely available and you can also find cheap USB->microUSB, USB->USB-C and microUSB->USB-C adapters. I have 3 USB->microUSB adapters I won on e-bay bidding for... 0,01$ each. I use them to download anime videos to a pendrive using my tablet and play them on my TV from the pendrive. I have 3 because they are tiny and easy to miss.

So as long as your mobile phone supports USB OTG function (most smartphones do) you will be able to read the card with a combination of a card reader and an adapter.

As for USB 3... it's first I heard of it from your post (I quess I am late with the mobile phone news) but the shape of "USB 3 mini" looks like regular microusb plug with some addon on the side so I think the phone should be able to read regular microUSB too, just with 2.0 speed. It would make sense. And if not - they are adapters "USB 3.0 A Female to Micro USB 3.0 B Male" available too.

BTW. Why won't you fix your laptop? From what it sounds it probably just needs windows reinstallation or a factory reset. It could be hardware issue too but system faults are way more common.

because i'm lazy :-/

It's either a keyboard physical issue, or driver issue. I can't get in because every time i type it goes to town with one of the keys going zoooooooooooom lol makes it impossible to type in passwords lol

I hate that laptop anyways :/
