Anyone else have fun creating detailed music videos to songs you like in your head?

what are your favorite songs to do this?

i find it the best way to get ideas for my illustrations. images 'pop' up to match the musical story - often as anime.

I really don't have that ability at present.

Perhaps, with a little effort, I could develop that ability.

It's a great ability to have.

Do you like the song "Tuesday Afternoon" by the Moody Blues. It's in my head now.

Perhaps you can listen to it, and produce a video in your head based on it?

ahah i can give you a "first impression" but it's not going to be detailed. the grain gets clearer after i get hooked on a song.

However, first impressions:

- boats sailing
- ancient Egypt
- super hot
- dancers wearing a white/ red satin dress dancing in the desert around a single burning tree
- the desert changes colour with the shadows of the dancers

Also - night in white satin - is one of my "detailed music video" songs, i hadn't heard this song but it's a similar vibe :)

[sorry if this is a bit weird]

Not weird. Stream-of-consciousness.

Very ripe stuff. Could be substantive.

I do this all the time. I like to write fiction and will often create music videos for my characters or pivotal scenes. As a teenager I was very obsessive — if I screwed up the video, I’d have to rewind the song and start over. God help me if I was listening to the radio

YES!! !

And then i get frustrated that I don't know how to do animation and get upset that I can't materialise my creativity! But also on top of this, my head will visualise the story of the song. Like Hotel California by The Eagles:

The guy is in an open top car, the 'dark desert highway' is empty, the sky is clear. The hotel he see's in the distant sits lonely atop a hill, the lights are welcoming, they draw you in promising comfort and hospitality. The guy rings the bell at reception - it's very quiet, not a soul to be seen. He waits a while, no one answers, but just as he's about to ring the bell again, a woman appears in the front doorway behind him, holding a candle. She checks him in, her voice is soft and she wears an old soft fabric dress in a pale pastel pink with frilled edges. As she shows him to his room, the guests poke their heads out of their respective rooms and whisper "Welcome to the Hotel California".

I could go on, but my post would then turn out waaaaaay long! lol But you get the gist.

or when the vibe is not right and my mind is distracted by external light / or noise thus "ruining" the video haha

complete darkness is ideal. sensory deprivation as a creative aid is the oldest trick in the book.

I do this so much it's not even funny! I even created certain characters and stories for certain songs. (Used to do it a lot for Blind Guardian and metal songs) Nowadays i often listen a song and it reminds me of my favorite fictional pairing. I have lots of playlists like that. I also love the site 8tracks but can't use it well..

We creative people need this sort of thing to offset the idiot comments that people make about us.

^ I don't know, even if this is a hidden talent or something I'd rather not try to prove myself to idiots, they'll just find something else to complain anyways.

It's not about "proving anything" to anybody.

It's about us having an outlet----something we're good at.
