A Canadian jogger who'd crossed the US border accidentally was locked up for two weeks just because she didn't have her ID on her. Why should it take two weeks to call her mother and bring her ID? Obviously, she lived walking distance from the border, so it shouldn't have taken more than half an hour.

And even if her mother couldn't have brought her ID right away for some reason, there are people who will break your locks for you for a fee if you're stuck out of the house. Again, it shouldn't take more than half an hour, and they work 24/7.

Or, if they were afraid she could've been a terrorist because she didn't have an ID, they could've called the Canadian police and asked them to escort the woman to her house and bring them an ID. If there's concern about terrorism, surely the Canadian police would cooperate.

If you read this article, you see it says she was EVENTUALLY allowed to call her mother. If they'd have just allowed her to call her mother right away, they could've let her go within less than an hour.

Were they justified in locking her up, were they justified in not putting warning signs? Did they deliberately not put signs saying there's a border ahead, do not cross, so they can lock up someone just to let everyone know they're doing their job? Here, don't say we never do anything.

If it were up to me, I'd lock up the people who locked her up for two weeks and see how much they like it.

Granted this is the first I hear of this at all, and I haven't read the article. But "They should've let her mother bring her ID right away and let her go".
It'd be so easy and little time consuming.

That wouldn't surprise me in the least.

With what's happening at the southern border this isn't surprising.

She isn't Canadian, she is a French national who was visiting Canada.

My mistake. I see that now.

However, even if Canada took its time to decide if she's allowed back in the country, there was no reason to lock up a person who obviously isn't dangerous (would Canada have agreed to let her back in if she was). They could've let her rent a hotel room. Her mother would've landed her money. Or if that's not possible, then a homeless shelter.

Also asylum seekers apparently usually have to be on U.S soil to make an asylum request...but now if one seeking that comes here, they can immediately have their child taken away forever before they even get to request asylum.

Asylum seekers are thrown in lock up facilities with their kids. Babies and toddlers are locked up, and brothers and sisters separated. When an illegal alien is caught by the immigration, he or she is deported whether they have kids in the US or not. Mothers and fathers have lost their children permanently, sometimes babies and toddlers, because of it. And it's not just the US. It happens in most countries.

And those people aren't necessarily criminals. They've crossed the border illegally, but they didn't commit a crime such as selling drugs or holding up a bank. Children grow up without a mother or a father.
