Favorite God or Goddess in Greek Mythology?

My favorite is Hestia because she was basically a homebody who stayed at home all the time and never bothered anyone. She tended the hearth in the palace of the Gods and unlike the other Gods and Goddesses who did some pretty horrific things to mortals she never did anything of the sort. All she wanted was to be left alone so that she could tend the hearth. I also like the fact that as a deity she was considered the protector of the home.

So anyways she is my personal favorite. Anybody care to discuss their favorite deity in Greek Mythology?

Yeah I liked her too.

Daughter of Demeter and Wife of Hades. I wonder if she was meant to symbolize the connection between nature and life and death? After all Demeter was a nature goddess and Hades was the God of the Underworld.

if you think how death creates life - a fruit has to "die" before the seeds are viable, how vegetation rots and makes compost...
It's the same old tale of the resurrection.

Yup and all things that live eventually have to die but then new life takes it's place.

She's a pretty awesome Goddess.

I also like Zephyrus, one of the four Anemoi (Wind Gods) and God of the West Wind. Unlike the other three guys he was a handsome prettyboy.

I liked the story of him and Apollo competing for the affections of a boy named Hyacinthus which tragically ended in the boy getting killed by a disc and Apollo turned the boy into the hyacinth flower out of grief.

But when you come down to it - he was imperfect, he died, he was given a new "body" and made perfect.

Well another recurring theme was redemption.

The Gods all had very human traits and could feel things like love, anger, regret, and jealousy but these feelings were magnified by the fact that they were all-powerful beings. Sometimes a God would desire a mortal man or woman which caused them trouble and the mortal would either be killed or turned into a monster. Often the Gods would take pity on them and do something to try and make up for what they did.

Like when Hera turned Lamia into a snake monster out of punishment for when her husband Zues desired her and he took pity on the creature and gave her the ability to take her eyeballs out of her sockets and put them in her mouth so that she could at least rest at night (Hera cursed her to where her eyes would always stay open like a snake's eyes so that she would always see the children she ate which reminded her of her own children who were killed).
