Do you remember where you were when you first heard about the attacks? I was returning a rental car. It was mid morning and I had not turned on a radio or TV prior to that. I walked in and asked why they had a radio on so loud.

I was in my senior year of high school in my first class when it was announced over the pa system. The teacher promptly turned on the TV to the news, and the images started pouring in. It seemed surreal. Class was let out early, out of concerns that there could be further attacks.

I was 11 years old and getting ready to go to school. I was watching The Today Show and coverage was almost non-stop. I thought to myself, "Okay, why's everybody making a big deal out of what's going on in New York?"

When I arrived at school, many students were gathered in hallways and in classrooms. The principal's voice came over the intercom and the principal said, "There's been a double bombing in New York City, one in Washington DC, and an airplane crash in Pennsylvania. I don't believe there's any threat to Portland, so please go on about your day."

What an ignorant thing to say. What about people who may have had family or friends in that part of the country?

That part I do not recall anything about, but IMO, the principal just didn't want students to panic.

I turned on the TV in the afternoon & was wondering why I couldn't find any shows on. I was on the net all morning & they were some things that came up but I didn't pay any attention to em.

My dad came in my room to get me up for school and the first thing he said was "They are talking about planes crashing." Being 16 year old me didn't give a f**k about some plane disaster. I didn't understand this was a terrorist attack and I didn't understand why multiple planes had crashed, I just thought it was a freak accident and they had incompetent pilots that day and multiple mechanical errors.

I don't think I knew what was going on, but I was probably crapping my pants anyways.

I was sitting on my bed feeding my turtle Nemo when I heard about it on the radio news at 15.
