I have been around many a strange individuals and those you may consider as "weird" and I have also watched movies depicting the biblical definition of Aspergers such as "knowing" --- where the kids called him ass-burgers,. and just recently,"The house with the clock in its walls"--well maybe the kid in this doesn't have it.
side note I kinda hate seeing movies where they throw the word out there -it always makes me feel unmatched, like its not me

Anyways the point is, I have never met in person someone who identifies as having Aspergers or even Autism! for that matter.

The rule is if you've met one aspie , you met ONE aspie!, but still..... I reckon we should have seriously similarities if not in our sensibilities then in our mannerisms, no. YET! I have a sneaky suspicion that if I ever met one, I wouldn't want to hang too long I feel I may think he/she is too disabled or are too.....odd , or maybe just maybe not odd enough!.

If you've met one aspie, you met ONE aspie!,

How many people here have actually met another Aspergian?
and what did you think of them rather what did you think of yourself after the fact.

I've meant a lot of other autistic people.
Some other family is autistic.
my school has a disproportionate number of autistic people.
One of my best friends in preschool/kindergarten was nonverbal autistic, a lot of others were later diagnosed level one.

When I grew up, Asperger's Syndrome was relatively unknown. I meet several individual while I was growing up that portrayed those symptoms. They became my close friends. It might be because were were all outsiders and a little different.

My girlfriend's brother has been diagnosed with Aspergers since was a kid. He deals with things by being kind of an as*hole. Everything has to be his way or he gets p!ssed off with anyone.
My girlfreind's probably on the spectrum too but she is diagnosed with lots of other mental issues instead. She's very sweet & sensitive.
When I was 18/19 I went to a center for people with low vision disorders or who were blind & there was a girl there with classic autism. She had a caretaker follow her around & she couldn't do much on her own. Her caretaker wasn't there for a couple days & she seemed a lot more independent then.
I knew another girl with Aspergers cuz our mom's were friends but I only saw her a couple times.
In my experience different people on the spectrum can be pretty different.

I grew up in an area with quite a few autistic people. It was a rural town. One of my friends reckoned it was the quiet country lifestyle that drew those families out there.

My friend's Dad worked in a home for people with severe autism and I met some of the residents.

There were also people I knew socially. I didn't know there was such a thing as high functioning autism back then, but I knew a couple of people I saw often were quite quirky.

It wasn't till I was in my 20s I found out that they were diagnosed aspies.

I've not met so many aspies since moving away, although there are 1 or 2 whom I've suspected.

I was always in school with other autistics. A lot of what I see people gripping about regarding NT's when it comes to basic human behavior applies to them as well.
