This is a very UK centric question. I don't know if other countries have similar things, but in the UK individual towns have a whole town celebration called a gala day, usually in June. The kids all dress up and have a parade down the main Street and a girl is crowned as the gala queen.

Not sure where the tradition comes from. I did a quick Google and not found much.

My family never went to these when I was a kid. Too much of a crowd for my aspie parents.

They don't appeal to me as an adult.

We have rodeo weekend at the beginning of June. A lot of similar events take place, such as parades and the crowning of a Rodeo Queen.

Oregon has similar events with most of them being in the late spring to early fall.

The biggest one is the annual Rose Festival which runs for about three weeks with the showcase event being the
Grand Floral Parade which happens about halfway through the festival.

The closest we ever had was Mardi Gras parades which are just an excuse for people to get wasted & throw stuff & show tits. Only way people can give up parting for Lent is if they have mega blowout 1st
