Mr. Ratburn is a fictional character on the animated children's series "Arthur". He recently "came out" as gay when he married another male character in the show.

Mr. Ratburn gives the kids tons of homework on the very first day of the school year. He is a real monster, uh, I mean fictional monster.

He didn't seem too particularly terrible to me when I watched the show as a kid.

I read last night they banned the episode of Mr. Ratburn's same-sex marriage in Alabama and Arkansas.

Go figure.

The series seems to handle the more taboo subjects, like cancer, pretty well, but they don't always handle more common and straightforward subjects such as "hitting someone is wrong". I once watched Mr. Enter tear the episode with that moral to bits.

Really?

Those particular US states seem to be a few steps behind the rest most of the time.

I'm not sure if the programme is shown in my country as I don't have satellite dish TV, but I'm sure they are sometimes available on YouTube and such.
