I used to have a bit of a sweet tooth. Within the past year or so, things like chocolate or a candy bar don't taste as complex as they used to for me. For example, tonight I had a little "fun sized" Snickers bar and it just tasted 'sweet'. It had no other flavor or nuance other than just...sweet as in totally one dimensional. I suppose it's a good problem to have. Still I'm assuming that my taste is getting duller the older I get and I assume that's probably something that's unavoidable.

Taste getting duller. Lack of vitamine B12. Cheapest form of B12? Marmite.

I think I get enough B12. I'm an omnivore and eat farm fresh eggs fairly routinely.

It's slowly creeping up on me too. I realised a while ago that the amount of salt I was adding to food was getting out of hand, and I find a lot of foods very bland these days without plenty of condiments or spicy sauces. I used to be quite a connoisseur of real ales, but I'm much less choosy now as I find it ever harder to tell them apart. As suggested, it is normal that throughout middle-age the number of taste-buds decreases, and the ones which are left become less sensitive. The sense of smell is usually more robust, not declining until the retirement years.

Some medications can affect the taste buds. I don't know if you started any meds around the time or a little while before you started noticing this issue.

I don't eat as many sweets as I used to. There are things I used to eat years ago that I think would make me sick now. I don't know what processes are at work, but I'm pretty sure it's age-related.

No meds for me, so that's not the issue. It must be age related. I'm hoping these aged changes are just that rather than being directly related to real aging in my body. I had shingles around age 40 when most people contract it in their 60-80s.

Our taste buds get less sensitive as we get older, but my sweet tooth seems bigger than ever. But I have noticed fruit doesn't taste as good to me. When I was a kid I would snack on fruit that my mom made sure we had all the time. Now I hardly ever touch fresh fruit, it's too expensive and it would probably go bad before I could eat it all, anyway.

I also used to really like cereal, especially the sugary kind, but I hardly ever get up early enough to have any and eating it any other time of day just feels weird.

I find that the temperature plays a big part in how I taste food.

I forgot to mention that some medical disorders & procedures can affect taste too. Most people would know if it was due to a medical procedure thou cuz they'd notice things tasting different within a very short time after. If your in good health & there's nothing new or worse with it, I'd assume that your taste-buds are getting duller due to getting older like you've did. I have various physical & mental disorders & I like to try to figure out the underlying causes & effects of things.
