I was asked by the Upper Dublin Police why I want to be a police officer.

So I showed them a video...

A Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) trauma center emergency video...

And I said...

I want to be a police officer...

So that I get to pull out my tools and use them to put bad guys through what ever it is that they put this kid through.

They closed my folder and told me to get lost.

:P

Can I bring my own tools and join you with this valuable contribution to society?

What do you recommend for removing fingernails, pliers, a blowtorch or firearms?

I think the term you're looking for is "vigilante" rather than "police officer.

That being said:

Component adhesive, paracord and a very slow-moving vehicle, alternatively their own bodyweight. Or so I've been told...

"Dirty Harry" Callahan would make you wash your mouth out with soap for using "police officer" and the "V" word in the same sentence.

Then he would ask you a question. 'Do I Feel Lucky? before yanking off your fingernails with paracord tied to a slow moving vehicle.

With a name like "Dirty Harry", I'd question the man's credentials when it comes to soap.

Are you surprised? That kind of thinking is what makes bad cops bad.

Are you a fan of Col. Wilford and his troops?

It's hard for kids in trauma centers. The kids don't understand that the doctors are seeking to treat them for their injuries or illnesses.

The doctors aren't seeking to put those kids "through anything."

Re-read his post.  He was referring to the "Bad Guys" who put the kids in the hospitals, not the doctors who tried to save them.

His post seems to imply that he sought a badge to hide behind while he dispensed "Vigilante Justice" to those "Bad Guys", and that he felt contempt for the recruiter who rejected him for that attitude.

All right. I see your point. I should have discerned the implication.

It is true that, at first glance, one might think that the doctors ARE torturing the kids in trauma centers. I remember my reaction when I got three stitches when I was five years old.

Police don't have the luxury of dispensing justice. They only serve one aspect of the criminal justice system, the enforcement of the law. If they also determined sentencing they would cease to serve the community.
