Once i was down my local pub and this guy said in front of some girls about me “he’s a weirdo that guy is I have seen him before”. I told a guy I see from the autistic society about why the guy in the pub called me a “weirdo” and he said “he called you that because you look ‘different’”

What do you think he meant by “look different”? Does he mean physically different? I don’t really want to ask the guy from autistic society what he meant so I’d rather have your opinions......

Didn't you start a thread on this same incident once before?

Yeah I did

It’s not nice to call someone a weirdo is it?

Yeah, I did. It’s not nice to call someone a weirdo is it?
It is not nice to call someone a 'weirdo' -- that was likely affirmed in your other thread of the same subject.  It is also against the rules to start multiple threads on the same subject.

no it's not but apparently you cannot address an issue twice on this forum
so if you ruminate about it a lot it's just tough

It's pretty common for those of us on the spectrum to be awkward, especially in the bar/club/pub setting. I would assume that the term weirdo got applied to you James cuz you seemed off like you didn't belong there. Your social skills, the way you carried yourself, way you were acting, way you moved, &/or the way were dressed probably gave off some "vibes" that made you stand out.

Yeah true but it is nasty to say someone is a weirdo in front of them.

I hope karma gets that guy

It may be nasty, buuut it’s not all that surprising in a pub environment where the guy was likely consuming alcohol which lowers people’s inhibitions and results in people speaking their mind.

Yes, but at the same time it's generally a pretty harmless insult of the sort that also gets used when friends are giving each other a hard time.

Do you think he was cutting you up, or do you think he was playfully prodding you?

Some friendships have a dynamic where playfully unkind things are done for the amusement of all involved.

It's also not uncommon for people to put down the different in order to build themselves up. I'd imagine that behavior would be more common in a pub. Guys want to be higher on the social ladder in order for them to impress girls & have more buddies.

"Pub Culture" -- that explains it.  If people want to be in a place where kindness and rationality are the predominant forces, then a pub is certainly not the place to be.

People go to pubs to loosen their inhibitions, to act out, and to blow off steam.  I have never known anyone to go inside a pub for the peaceful and tranquil atmosphere reminiscent of a monastery.  No, instead they go into pubs to drink, dance, eat, make noise, laugh (usually at others), and maybe throw a few punches around.

Maybe a Buddhist Temple or a Catholic Cathedral would be a better place for some types of people.
