I'm now embarrassed by the Guardian and am now the laughing stock of the UK and much of Europe.Im just kidding I'm not really embarrassed I'm joking around.

I was reading my google news feed and came across this article in the Guardian that used my home county as the example of opioid addiction and blight in rural America.

I guess I shouldn't read the news so much LOL

The Guardian is a 'Left-of-Centre' British broadsheet newspaper, which is worth reading (I'm subscribed to its comments section), but its content needs to be taken with a pinch of salt for the most part. A fair number of its correspondents are middle-class people with little knowledge of the world outside of London or the real world in general. A couple of years ago there was an article which described Swindon and Peterborough as 'country villages'. Both towns (Peterborough is in fact a city) have populations of almost a quarter of a million people.

Well...P.T. Barnum once said that "there is no such thing as bad publicity".

So if your county gets held up to the world as...an example of America's dirty linen then...take pride! I guess..

If you're doing the stuff yourself, stop it...

If not then it's no more rational to base your self worth or embarrassment on it being done in your local area than if it was done a million miles away.

Just stay safe if it's something that makes them get violent. I have no idea if it is or not.

Hold on,hold on!

It was meant as a joke, a humorous context was the post meant. It's a bit of an honor to have your local area in a international news site. You take this the wrong way,the post was meant in humor :D

It seems to be one of those news sources wherein the staff believes there are still plantations in the south, that people are all either "cowboys or indians" west of the Mississippi (except for Los Angeles, where everyone is either a movie star or a musician), and that everybody else is a rabid racist with a sheet over their head, gun in one hand, and a noose in the other.

It's amusing to read, if only for what they get wrong (which is most of everything).

People used to have more respect for the Guardian years ago but not anymore.

I think The Independent is still the favoured one here now, I'm not sure as I stay away from the news generally.

The Sun, The Daily Mail etc is like equivalent to Fox News - lying garbage you wouldn't wipe your own backside with.
