There is only one way to find out.

Putting aside the fact that strongmen aren't fighters; their primary advantage is their exceptional strength and they're being pitted against something that is at a minimum 20% stronger than they are. Plus, gorillas have a bite that narrowly beats out a grizzly bears in terms of force.

I'm assuming, of course, that weapons are off the table.

A male silver back is three times the weight of an average human male. Much more muscled. And has a much longer "reach". Mike Tyson in his prime would get his head torn off and stuffed up his rectum. If he werent bitten to death first.

In fairness, the people vying for the title of "worlds strongest man" are quite far from average. Some of them weigh close to 200 kg, and some of them are literal mutants.

That being said, they'd still stand exactly no chance.

What about against a chimpanzee?

At least with the chimp they might be closer in weight, but still, likely no.

I won't insist that it's utterly impossible when you consider some of the animals that humans have been alleged to have killed bare-handed, but you're going to lose a lot of strong men before you lose a chimp to this experiment.

Chimps are about 2–3 times stronger then humans of the same weight. But the strongest man in the world weights like 300 pounds and maybe 8 times stronger then the average human. ... The chimp might get the human down and injured, but the strongest man in the world could crush its neck or head.

The gap in strength between a man and an adult male gorilla would be similar to the gap between a toddler and a grown man. The strongest man compared to a gorilla would be like an adolescent boy compared to a grown man.

the bite alone, of one of those hairy beasts [of the simian variety ;) ] can break bones.
