Me and my boyfriend wanted to buy a new bed, so we drove all the way to the furniture store to have a look. When we chose the perfect bed and tapped in the code, it said that there was 1 left in stock, so we were pleased, and we went to the front desk to purchase it.
We asked for it to be delivered, as we haven't got a big enough vehicle to take it home.
But the woman at the desk said that there is some policy where they can't deliver furniture to your home if it's the last item in stock, and that you have to take it home yourself. She offered to reserve the bed so that we can hire a van and collect it a different day, but we felt that it wasn't worth the hassle as we preferred it to just be delivered. So we had to choose a different bed, even though it wasn't exactly the one we wanted. There was 2 available, so we got it delivered the next day. (We couldn't really wait for more beds to be in stock because we desperately needed a new bed as soon as possible).

But we were both baffled by this stupid policy they had, as it didn't seem to make sense. What is the difference delivering a bed to our house if it's the last in stock or not? :?

I wonder if it's because if they deliver the last one, but they screw up (scratch, break, etc.), there isn't a replacement... If they make the customer assume the responsibility to get it home, then the retailer isn't on the hook if it's damaged in transit.

If it's a matress it might be that the one in stock has already grown and the one they will deliver (from the back) hasn't therefore they can fit a bunch of them in the delivery vehicle and make it worthwhile. Once it's expanded they don't want to have to arrange to deliver it in a Ford Transit Connect.

This explanation makes sense, at least to me.

Yes, maybe that does explain the policy. :)

No, just ordinary with springs and some kind of greyish stuffing stuff.
