Do you like looking at castles?

Sure castles are cool.

Europeans probably take castles for granted. But Americans are fascinated by them. Disneyland is full of them. But part of why Eurodisneyland failed was probably because they were trying to export castles back to europe. Europeans wanna wild west stuff..cowboys and Indians, and scenes of Monument Valley. They got castles already in thier own backyards.

I was very excited when I got to live where there are many castles. I was able to visit some and spent time learning about about them. I like hearing about the reasons why some of their designs/details came to be. Like the stairs that are meant to trip up intruders.

Castles are architectural marvels, I enjoy and admire that each one is unique.......I would not want to live in one.

My Mum thought my Dad said he lived in a castle. It was his accent that made her think that when he went to say where he lived. Well, they married!

Sure, they can be nice. There aint that many in this part of Europe, though.

Wales has plenty. Of castles in various states of repair/dissrepair including many more places where fortified enclosures were built. If I was to look at a detailed map and plot a 25 mile radius from here and only included the stone built castles there are at least 12 of them. Actually more like 15 or even more.
I believe there were around 600 castles in Wales at one time. About a third of these were stone built. What was once the largest castle in Wales no longer exists and that is Aberystwyth castle. It was destroyed by both the sea and the weather despite it being a sturdy stone built castle. It goes to show how powerful the elements can be.

Yes. I was at Dinevwr castle recently, and we passed a beautiful dissused church.

I prefer star forts.

Yes I like wandering around stately homes and castles.

Having said that, we all think of castles as somehow picturesque and romantic. Like Hever Castle and Leeds Castle in Kent.

A couple of years ago I was on holiday in the North East of England / Scottish borders area and some of the castles up there are exceptionally solid, brutal structures. Designed to do a job, with no concessions to prettiness! Tantallon Castle, for example, is an absolute thug of a building.

It is a "thug of a building". Just googled it. A castle is a "fortified manor house". And that one is more fort than mansion.

In contrast the castle of King Ludwig (the "mad" king of Bavaria) is quite fairytale looking.

You get tired looking at castles if you play Mario a lot

I lived in a castle once. It was rather drafty. A palace is the way to go.

I do like the architecture. At least in popular fiction, it tends towards the grand and sweeping and is reminiscent of another age. While modern skyscrapers (and even most office blocks) may outclass them on every metric of size, luxury, safety (if not defense), utility, and convenience, there's something very primal, rough-and-ready, about castles.
