This name has gotten a lot of attention recently. What do females who actually have the name Karen think about this? Do they find it offensive that people are using their name badly?

Why? What has happened that their names are in the news?

Karens sisters are called Sarah. Are Sarah's in the news as well?

I am a bit out of touch. What have Karens done recently that they are on the news?

The term "A Karen" is getting popular with social justice warriors and I don't really like it.

1.It gives a stereotype to mainly white woman and I don't feel that's healthy, the world has enough stereotypes already.

2.Whats wrong with asking to speak to the manager if the service is really bad,you go to a restaurant and you get crappy service that you paid good money for,is it some crime to speak your mind.Yes some people complain to much,I get that but there all not always upper middle class white women.

Men sometimes complain to much, black people sometimes complain to much, all people sometimes complain to much,it'something all people do not just upper class white women.

Karen; is a racist, sexist classist slur, pure and simple and people who use the term should be called out on it. 8O

I feel bad for them, it is a rotten association.

I never knew someones name was racist. I never knew Karens were thought of in a negative way.

It's not that everyone named "Karen" is a Karen, but the name has become a shorthand for the sort of character described.

The charactor description is corrupt and unfair,so an middle class white woman stands up for herself and somehow deserves to be called a slur.

I am not a social justice warrior. I am a social justice worker. I wanted to know more about Karen.

Who said anything about standing up for herself? The stereotype/archetype specifically involves entitlement and talking down to people she views as lesser, hence "Karen wants to speak to your manager".

Dude you are so missing the point. Did you read the part about Karen being "entitled"? Like the kind of person who complains about minor problems with customer service, and may possibly get someone fired by speaking with the manager.

It's selfish and insensitive to endanger people's jobs, especially low-wage jobs, because the waiter forgot the ketchup or something. But Karen probably isn't thinking about this because she's, among other things, middle-class and therefore out of touch with the potential financial insecurity and job fatigue of the workers she's complaining about.

Both white privilege and class privilege tend to make people feel entitled. That's why Karen is described as a white, middle-class women. Lots of people who are not privileged in those ways would not expect the manager to care about their complaints or would not themselves care to complain about minor customer service issues.

I'm not saying the meme is totally fair or accurate, it's partially based on stereotypes (not all class-privileged people are as*holes), but the type of person being described as Karen is not just a completely innocent person who is being unfairly bashed.

I personally spent years in the restaurant business and I if anyone know how hard it can be.But I think that a complaint is reasonable if one gets bad service, and no one ever gets fired for forgetting the ketchup, managers aren't that stupid.

There isn't a waiter/waitress or delivery driver that never forgot something, the number one reason people get fired in the restaurant business is no call/no show, they blow off work in other words. So called Karen's never get anyone fired, when a lot of customer service mistakes happen it's usually very busy and mangers understand that.

It's paranoia to think slightly over sensitive female customer are responsible for mass firings, I worked in the restaurant biz for years and it simply doesn't happen.

I don't mind people using the word Karen that way. There are so many women (and men) out there who deserve to be called worse.
