I don't know why but for me personally I have not seen Las Vegas or Dubai as interesting holiday destinations probably I'm not into all the bling, and gambling or just spending all the time bathing in the sun. I seem to feel like the one who thinks that. I'm more of a person of goes to see iconic historic places and go on history tours and stuff like that.

I have been to Las Vegas, so I can safely say that you are not missing much if you are not interested in gambling, drinking, food buffets, drugs, prostitution, and over-the-top entertainment.  It seems to me that if those things were suddenly missing from the Las Vegas scene, the place would turn into just another desert ghost-town with too many hotels and not enough class, like a boom-town gone bust after the end of the Gold Rush.

I did not see much of Dubai when I was there, so my opinion of the place -- while similar -- may be unfounded.

I had to fly into and out of Vegas to get to Death Valley. Stayed in a nice hotel for one night to fly out early the next morning. My father-in-law got us a room in the Hilton near the top. That was nice after staying at primitive campsites in the park for a week. I feel the same way about the sun and gambling, those do not appeal to me.

I hate the idea of going to Las Vegas with my eyes as they are.

It's why I haven't been to Blackpool in 29 years.

Also isn't Vegas a waste of money? Ie when I go home, I know I will waste £1 on slot machines. If I was in Vegas I would likely do the same thing - invest, invest, invest on casinos, but with $100. That would be a stupid waste of money. I can afford to waste a quid but wasting a hundred dollars seems stupid.

Dubai only interests me in that we shouldn't have gone as a club and I don't get why we did.

It doesn't strike me as a place that regular people go on holiday. Too expensive.

I went to the Canaries as a kid.

My favourite place to go on holiday if all this (Brexit/Covid/my eyes being bad) was over would be somewhere like Florence. I loved it there.

If my eyes were better, I wonder what Cairo would be like as a destination: with its pyramids. Also I'd love to return to Greece.

I wouldn't mind going if someone else paid for my trip, but if I had to pay myself, I wouldn't be interested. Dubai is in a country where women's rights are anything but good, so while it's a popular tourist destination, I just can't help but think of going there as a safety risk not worth the money. Las Vegas I have nothing against, but I can name so many places that seem much more interesting than it, so I'd rather visit those if I got to pick.

I have no desire to go to Las Vegas or Dubai. There are only a few places I'd like to visit and those are not on that list.

Cairo would be very different from the Pyramids---though they are rather close to them.

The main problem with the Pyramids is the extreme crowds and the extreme touting.

Shows my ignorance haha!

Florence was ok, it was full of tourists but they were all there for the same purpose I was: seeing the art/architecture etc.

Worst thing was hearing a mix of voices passing under my window & the fact I didn't have a bedroom. I hate that about any city. Constant noise at night.

But it seemed to settle around midnight unlike for eg London.

What places would you want to see?

I liked touring Naples and Rome, except for the trash in the streets.  The beggars and hustlers were also a pain.

Manila (P.I.) has its own charm, as does Mombasa (Kenya), but they are both in "Third-World" countries.

Tijuana is not a place that I want to visit again.  Even when visiting Ensenada, I usually take the long way around.

Stratford, Ontario seems to have the nicest European "vibe" of any western city.

Anywhere in the Republic of Ireland is worth visiting more than once; Northern Ireland ... not so much.

I wouldn't want to go anywhere in the middle east. Las Vegas is one of the very few places in the U.S. that I would NOT want to visit.

It was about 37 Celsius when I was in Rome. I drank the water from the fountains (though not directly from the fountains; they had faucets near the fountains).

You have to make SURE you "validate" your ticket when you take public transportation. I forgot to do that, and was fined 50 Euro.

Rome has a very modern Metro line, and a very graffiti-strewn Metro line. You can get to the vast majority of the historical sites via Metro. The Colosseum is right across the street from a Metro station.

Yeah, places for gambling = places for losing money.

Which is fine if it's 2p machines. As long as you're not completely broke when you start.

But I feel like only millionaires should really be going to places where people lose hundreds. And then, they should only be spending hundreds, not thousands or millions.

Tbh I can't be bothered going to America or the Americas or Australia. No offence to our American and Australian members just... I can't be bothered with long flights anymore.

The area around Las Vegas can be nice.

Vegas itself----is....well...Vegas. Big and small casinos and hotels, some of whom have sort of a neat theme. People only go there to gamble and to maybe see a show or something.
