Why do people gotta be so technical?
I don't get it. It's so annoying. They know what you mean but they decide to split hairs. It's like I can say "Texans are dying from the cold" and some smart ass can say "No actually, they are dying from hypothermia and carbon dioxide poisoning, and because that one man couldn't use his oxygen tanks and ran out of air, not from the cold."
Hello, all that is happening because of cold weather, that is the culprit of deaths happening down in Texas.
Just recently I was talking to an online friend and he mentioned someone online who is involved in a lifestyle kink and I commented she had the guts to use her real name online and my online friend gets all technical saying "you have done that too in the past" referring to my email and Facebook, totally not related to what we were talking about so I got angry sand told him how damn annoying it is when people get all technical and he bloody knew well what I meant.

I can be pedantic about this sort of thing sometimes but I would never try and look like a smartass. That is not what I intend at all and I hate it when they jump in for no reason and get all pedantic too.

My husband does it to me sometimes but the difference is he is making a joke and tells me he was just messing with me.

Smartass jokes are better than an actual smartass, that's for sure.

I thought this was more what autistic people do. I'm not saying we're technical smart arses, but I've just seen plenty of autistic people here admit that they do this and say it's an autistic trait.

But NTs do it too. I am asking why do they do this which is why I posted this in the Random topic forum.
I also think you need to be very autistic to make these errors lol. I can't see someone on the very mild end doing this or someone who is mild.

I've noticed people do this when they have some sort of agenda to push. COVID comes to mind. I've seen people chime into a conversation about the death toll and go, "Well, people are dying from diabetes/COPD/etc., not COVID," to try to be "technical" and dismissive of the danger of it. It's like, those are risk factors. If diabetes makes you more likely to die from COVID, you still died from COVID. Someone's diabetes didn't magically manifest damage in their lungs and suffocate them to death.
This kind of reminds me when I was reading about shark bites and this one dude in the article wrote that people don't actually die from a shark bite, they die from the trauma of being bitten or die from the impact from it. My mom said that is still dying from a shark bite and that man is being too technical and he is just being an ass.

I may interpret this:
As people dying from sniffles instead of extreme temperatures.

Also with lesser to none urgency -- it says that people are dying, not yet dead.
Yep.

Now that I think of it, my mom used to tell me that I would make a good lawyer cuz of the way I would argue technicalities when I was trying to get out of trouble or get my way with things. This behavior seems to be very common with politicians as well & sometimes business executives. I highly doubt that many autistics would have the social skills charisma to be good trial lawyers, higher ranking politicians, or rise to the top of the cooperate world(Bill Gates is an exception). Now I'm wondering why being technical is considered an Aspie trait when others with very good social skills are also technical

John Wilkes Boothe didnt kill Lincoln. It was the bullet from JWB's gun that killed him! Except it wasnt even the bullet. It was the shock trauma to Lincoln's Brain, combined with the blood loss from the wound created by the bullet...which killed Lincoln.

Therefore....stop slandering JWB by saying "he killed Lincoln"!

I see several options here:
1. They just want to look smart by pointing out facts despite knowing very well what you meant.
2. They want to make you look stupid so they correct you despite knowing what you meant.
3. They really think that you mean it literally and decide to inform you of how things actually are without having any ill will. This is even more likely if they know you're on the spectrum since people on the spectrum are often pretty literal.
4. They are on the spectrum and thus a little literal.
Also eh... my official diagnosis is asperger's syndrome, I live on my own and can make a living by working, so I'm not in the deepest end of the spectrum, but I sometimes make mistakes like that, especially with people I don't know well.
lol, that doesn't work because when I see people do it, they already make themselves look stupid and bad, not the other user.
