Can people still get the virus by touching something? I’m not up to date with what going on with the coronavirus.

It's mostly transmitted when people breathe it but it can stay on surfaces for a couple days. The virus won't go through your skin but you should wash your hands so it won't get in your nose, mouth, or eyes when eating or touching your face.

Especially keep your fingers away from your nose unless you wash your hands first. Everybody goes for a little pick every now and then, but think about it - if you don't wash your hands first, you are introducing just about anything to a warm, moist environment so it can replicate and thrive. It doesn't necessarily have to be Covid 19, it could be just a cold, the yearly flu, sinus infection, who knows? That's why little kids are always ill with things - finger always up the nose! ...and then on toys and all surfaces. :(

Over week ago, the plumber was in my apartment, he was working on another apartment, I got worried, cuz of the virus. Someone else is coming to the apartment building to check the smoke detectors, can you tell if the batteries will die soon?

They are probably not battery operated smoke/heat detectors. They're likely hard wired into the building and connected to a fire monitoring system in case there's a fire so that the fire department is called. They may also be connected to the sprinkler system if there is one - not sure on that. All of these things typically get inspected once a year to make sure they're all working properly for safety.

But I suppose it's also possible that a landlord or building manager is simply just checking to see if battery operated smoke alarms have batteries in them - it is their responsibility to make sure they're working properly so that you and the building are safe.

Over a couple of years ago, on thanksgiving, my kitchen smoke detector came on, it kept beeping, the batteries were die, I had big anxiety attack, I was in my wheelchair with a broken ankle. Someone came over to help me.

No service person should enter your home without wearing PPE (mask, gloves, glasses).

I keep a can of Lysol at the door to spray the doorknob when they enter / leave, and a big jug of hand sanitiser so I can clean up too. As soon as they leave I have a long shower and wash my clothes, just to be safe.

If it don’t go through your skin then why wash your hands?

They need to wear glasses? What is PPE? I don’t remember if the apartment building owner & the plumber were those. But I bought gloves. And been keeping my distance. I wish I have Lysol.

Wearing glasses is to protect themselves from getting covid through their eyeballs should their be any covid in the air. It's far more important that they were a mask because that protects you from getting covid from them if they have it.

PPE = Personal Protective Equipment (Safety glasses, gloves of all kinds, masks/respirators, face shields, earplugs etc)

The best things you can do are: Keep distance, wear a mask, wash your hands & don't touch your face.

I think the plumber had a mask on, I don’t remember about the apartment building owner wearing a mask. I have gloves if they don’t have any.

If you don’t have a mask & someone came to your apartment, can you cover your nose & mouth with your top or sweatshirt?

Anything is better than nothing. Some masks work better than others, too. But ideally people just put a mask on.. it's been a year, they should own masks & respectfully wear them.

A guy who works for the apartment building, a handyman, I don’t know how to spell the other word, he came to check the smoke detectors, he didn’t wear a mask & gloves, I was soooo freaked out. I offered to give him my gloves, he said he has a mask & gloves, they wouldn’t with him, he got them & put them on. And he didn’t keep his distance one time.
