I live on a small island that was set up in the 1920's as an offshore stronghold to stash the cash of the wealthy,
so as to hide their cash from the tax man, which then allows such people to avoid and evade paying tax on their fortunes and income.

Now, this island, in order to operate their tax avoidance and evasion in such an amoral and unscrupulous way,
does so by being independent to the UK in terms of government, law and health services.

An island as small as Jersey, which is 7 miles by 5, with a small population of around 120,000 being independent
does mean trouble for some of its inhabitants and I will explain why.

When an small island with a small population has independent governance, this means that those in the various positions of power in the island are left to act according as to how they and their peers see fit.

So we have a small amount of people in charge of their various areas of the islands infrastructure, who answer
to themselves, rather than to the greater public.

And as the power is held by just a limited amount of people, with some of the people in power, being longer serving than others and thus, among the old hands, due to no independent avenue to lodge complaints
have been able to create an establishment of types, which operates based on power rather than justice.

The government operates in this way, in where there are avenues for members of the public to complain when they are being mistreated, but this avenue is not independent but run by other members of the same government.

And due to the toxic nature of politics, the existing relationships between the members of the government and the people who are employed to scrutinised those who are in government, are from the same pool of politicians,
so, when a complaint is made from a powerless bystander such as myself (say for example making complaints as to breaches of the disability discrimination laws etc), because my complaints are not on the agenda cards of the politicians, then the complaints and requests get ignored.

In addition to the government being run in this way, the other pubic services are also.
The police for example (of which there are more police officers per square mile than almost all places in the world),
have a complaints procedure where the abused individual has to complain to an office of the police where a long standing local ex-police officer takes the complaints.

So, if abused by a member of the police, the person you have to complain to is one of the abuser police officers mates.

Then there is the medical service providers. All GP's are self employed on the island and if your doctor commits malpractice against you, the only place you have to complain is his receptionist. I.E. the person who the GP has employed to man his reception.

The health Service is the same, but instead of having an independent office to make complaints to, there is
a "feedback" email address that you can write to.

The social services also is the same. No one to complain to but the person who is abusing you....
The same is pretty much the case for all areas of society.

This would be fine if the island wasn't an offshore tax haven, as people perhaps would be more open to speak about abuse etc.

However, the island makes a good living from being a tax haven, its best clients are the super rich and in some cases famous and if the island got a bad reputation for criminal activities, some of the super wealthy would not come and use the island. So the island does all it can to keep a cleaner than clean image.

However, tax havens are tax havens and inevitably save rich people money.
Rich people, as with any other type of people, come in all shapes and sizes, philosophy types etc.

Some rich folk are kind and friendly, some are recluses, some are even philanthropists.

There are also some of the rich folk who are criminal in mindset. In fact, i would say that
a fair percentage of wealthy folk to want to use a tax haven have to be fairly liberal in terms of morality,
as tax havens aren't moral by nature but places where the wealthy can keep their money and avoid giving
a penny to tax. Sure, I guess it is good business but it isn't particularly fair. I am not judging, i am just saying.

So, nonetheless, as with all other tax havens. Tax haven of Jersey is a place that likely attracts its fair share of
criminally minded people, perhaps to evade tax, and perhaps even launder money.

As you likely know, most banks are fairly unscrupulous as to who they do business with.
Generally speaking, if you have money, they will do business with you.

And i really mean they don't care. If your the next Hitler, or the next Sadam Hussain,
If you got money, no problem, the many merchant banks will be more than happy to stash that cash
in their stronghold. If your an arms dealer about to start world war 3, they will stash your cash,
and if you need a few extra mil to pay for expanding your conquest, no problem, they like people with
ambition. they'll lend you the money, and wish you well on your genocidal mass murder sprees.

So, yep having a cleaner than clean reputation, is what they want, so as to go undetected for as long as possible.

Now, when it comes to people with money, as mentioned before, sure most of the rich folk are nice enough
some a bit snobby and snotty nosed, who look down on the local inhabitants, who are peasants to them i guess.

But some are the worst type of folk who use their money to hurt people and in a small island like Jersey
pretty much everyone is available to be brought, every man has his price, as the devil says.

Some of the wealthy folk also have strange tastes, for example, a celebrity that fairly recently passed away,
a man named Jimi Saville, was later found out to have been molesting the children in one of the childrens homes
in the islands, and apparently the people involved let him, I don't know how this happened. but it wouldn't surprise
me if various people in the service were paid off by their celebrity buddy.

I do not think that Jimi Saville was the only case where a celebrity abused people in the island, whether children, adult, disabled, or otherwise. I believe that when it comes to wealthy celebrities, who offer bribes and social status as collateral, i think quiet a few of the local people in positions of power are more than happy to take a bribe in order to allow one of the wealthy and connected to abuse their victims.

Whether police / doctors / social services / cafe or restaurant owner.

Where celebrities appear, the people in power suddenly completely forget that the law exists, i guess in many cases they are too busy rimming their new famous friends, in hope to escalate up societies ladder of the rich and most powerful to think about what laws their breaking and what abuse they are subjecting to their celebrities victim.

Nonetheless, In such islands as Jersey, there is very little an individual who is being abused can do.
As if the abusers have money and office, no one will do anything, either cause they don't care or because they are too busy trying to hush everything up, or worse still, cause they are in on the scam and fiddling with the kids too....

So. imagine being me and consider
what can you do?...
