I seem to feel that it would make me less anxious and worried if were to wear maybe a disposable mask underneath a cotton mask with a filter because I seem to feel it will give me peace of mind because of new variants. I know I've been told before that me doing that is to protect other people and not myself unless the other person is wearing two masks then he or she is doing that to protect me. It may seem like I'm being over-paranoid, but I seem to feel it will make me feel it will help me and stop me worrying whilst back at work.

I've actually seen an increasing number of people wear more than one mask, since I think there are now some concerns with the cloth ones that people are using being too thin.

As long as you can breathe fine, feel free to wear as many masks as you want.

We are strongly encouraged (required?) to wear double masks. I do it all the time, even with a regular one over N95.

It's annoying as hell, but I do what I have to do.

It's better to err on the side of caution.

Nobody gets upset here in NYC if somebody wears a double mask.

They get more upset if you don't wear a mask at all.

Technically it is 'okay' to do so. I've seen plenty who do. Sometimes with even more layers.

Staff at my residential program are required to wear double masks when they're in the car with a student.

If you can breath with two masks and can afford buying twice as many masks (if they're the one us only -kind), I don't see why not do so. Not that I think it's necessary if the one mask you're already wearing is a good one.

I don't double mask personally because I have asthma and an unusual accent. On the other hand, I think double masking is the way to go for people who don't share my issues.

Personally I do not double mask. Instead I wear a mask that is effective at filtering out the virus and those mask are N95s. I have been wearing them from the beginning when I go out. They are reusable when you wear them intermittently when indoors provide you do not get them wet. I will wear a mask for around 2 to 3 months until it becomes so ratty that I am forced to throw it away. I sanitize them between uses using a relatively inexpensive UVC sanitizer box to kill off any viruses that may have come in contact with the mask.

I take the opinion that it is important for a person to protect themselves - FIRST AND FOREMOST. By protecting oneself, you are also protecting others because an N95 will also prevent you from expelling virus particles should you inadvertently become infected.

N95s can be harder to breathe through. I also have asthma also and it can be difficult to wear a mask for hours on end. But there are different types of N95s. Now that masks are available again, I have switched to a mask called a Moldex 4200 Airwave Respirator. It has minimal airflow restriction. It is almost like wearing no mask at all.

I am not a turtle afraid of leaving its shell. I have been up an about the whole past year - going places and doing things. I let my masks protect me. And so far it has performed this function well. It better - because I am an old person (72 years old) and one of the most likely to die from COVID-19.

I think double masking is actually less effective because it gives people a false sense of security. Lots of people seem to think that wearing two masks means they do not have to practice any social distancing or other precautions. There's lots of vids & pix on social media sites of large groups of people huddled together all wearing masks. Wearing two masks is like signing when you pay for something at a store with a credit-card. Signing gives the credit-card users an allusion of security while doing very little to stop others from using the card. I have no problem with others choosing to wear two or more masks but I strongly believe that it should be a personal choice to wear more than one. I'd much rather practice social distancing & personal hygiene & only wear one mask instead of wearing multiple 1s while I'm walking a distance & carrying heavy things instead of wearing multiple masks while doing the walking & carrying & having strangers wearing multiple masks walking rite behind me or next to me for a while. I think the latter would be less safe but it is fairly common. I'd also like to be able to voice my opinions on this without others automatically assuming that I love Trump & I'm a horrible person who does not care about anybody but myself. I have NOT noticed that behavior on this forum but I've seen that on other sites.

I remember wearing 5 masks when I had to clear up vomit at my old job.

I think I would rather wear a hazmat suit with an oxygen tank instead of that many masks. Living the rest of my life like Bubble Boy(funny movie BTW) is the only guaranteed way to never catch Covid during my life

I probably won't get my first dose until May and second dose until July or August.

It will Also protect you better as it'll provide better filtration for the air that passes through them when you inhale, but w/o properly fitted sealed to your face N95's or respirators, you won't have maximum protection for yourself. But yes, double masks are better than single - even for the wearer, not just everyone else they're protecting from them.
