Not me, my dad. Older bro sent an ad for a car for sale yesterday, I emailed them this morning & we went and bought it this afternoon - pick it up tmw afternoon.

1960 Plymouth Valiant. One small paint flaw that will be fixed. Previous owner probably spent $30K restoring it - frame off rotisserie down to the metal even underneath resto. Paid just over a 3rd of that.

My dad's first car was a '62. Now he has a near perfect 1960 - that's in WAY better shape than the one he owned back in the day. This one is in almost as good of shape as the day it rolled off the assembly line.

He's wanted another one for many years. Gonna be cool for him to have and drive that's for sure! 8)

Couple pics I snapped today:

Weird factoid: This being a Plymouth Valiant 200 = Same car different body as a Dodge Dart, same same as a Chrysler 200 today.. and my car = 2013 Dodge Dart. (which is the same car as today's Chrysler 200, which has a different body and fancier interior.) 53 years apart, though.. and my car is a 4cyl 6spd while this one is a slant 6 with 3spd auto I think.

Beautiful car! Congrats to your Dad on a fine purchase there! If you and your brother actually bought this for him ... can only imagine his face when he sets on eyes in it! :)

I had an aunty who reacted that way too over any new big purchases ... until my Uncle got wise and bought her the sewing machine of her dreams and then took her on fabric buying sprees pre-car purchases. He even built a car from kit form once. Their son became a racing car driver.

Cool car. That's like the old man version of a Barracuda.

Awesome, what year?

I've found that old guys with Caddy ATSes like when I call them a Camaro for grown-ups.
I've found guys our age with Toyota Cressidas don't like when I call them the old man version of a Supra.

Barracuda was a 1970 - was a cream colour & then he had it painted a dark green.

Awesome. I like the looks of the E-body ones even if there's other stuff that makes the A-body ones appeal to me more on another level. I especially like mismatched E-body Barracudas, like with say the '71 front but with the '73 taillights.

Those slant sixes can make great power if you work 'em.

Maybe - but this one is gonna stay stock af.

The car has collector plates and will be plated with collector plates again = super cheap insurance, like around $300/year instead of $2000+/year with maximum discounts.

Also, my dad isn't a gearhead and isn't mechanically inclined. He won't give two s**ts about adding power and especially not doing it himself. BUT, he will enjoy taking this car out cruising! Driving by the beach(s), taking his grandsons out, going out for dinner or coffee or ice cream in the summer time etc - just enjoying it for what it is.

If he wants to go a little quick and feel a little power, that's what the Can-Am Spyder is for.

And I'm sure in the future if we Really wanted to go for a quick rip we could borrow one of my friends handful of project cars.. some of them are rather fast - like should be sub 10 second 1/4 mile fast.
