C'mon hivemind: How can we do a little socially distant celebrating?

Had a weekly call with the lead from another team. That team is all local, but they're working from home. Others are working in the office. Others yet are working from home, and even more work remotely around the world.

But everyone is collectively responsible for breaking a monthly sales record. Typically these guys would have a nice lunch delivered or something. Easy enough to do for those in the office - but not so easily done for those working from home, and especially not for those working remotely from half a world away. It's not as if everyone doesn't already earn a paycheque, but it would be nice to have come kind of a celebratory something. Easy enough for me to bring a bottle of something Good into the office or whatever, but that doesn't really do anything for the guys working from home.

Can't really all go out to meet to eat at a restaurant or anything like that - covid, duh.

But maaaaybe food is the way ? the owner does like to do decent restaurants/delivery options. Mmmmaybe we should be telling everyone to order whatever they want from their local favourite place to support the restaurants we want to survive covid and then submit the receipts to the bossman to take care of? And maaaaybe we can get all these geeks & nerds on the same Zoom meeting to say hi to each other ? A bunch of them have never met any of the others because they work remotely from other countries and time zones. Only one of the ones from Europe has met the owner in person ever, I think. Maybe 2.

Anyways, so there's my maaaaybe idea.. hard to buy alcohol/weed for everyone if that isn't something they partake in - but food is something everyone can enjoy. A part of why the owner is as generous as he is with paying for restaurant meals and such.

Any other ideas? Something non-monetary. ~Everyone has enough money, it's more about expressing appreciation for a job well done. Plus they'll have some new cash bonus structures in place to make more money in time, anyways. But something as a little pat on the back as a "Thanks for doing your part to make this happen! Keep it up.. because that record is going to fall, and then that one, and the one after that.."

A bunch of introverts & shy people, possibly autistic some of them.. and not everyone gives a s**t about the same local sports team or anything so not like everyone's just waiting for a chance to all go out to a big game and rent a corporate box or some BS. Hmmm... if YOU were on a team of geeks & nerds scattered all over the place that were responsible for making your workplace ever more successful, what would you appreciate as some recognition for that? I'm sure we'll come up with a couple alternatives here, but figured I'd ask you ppl Here because some of you are the quiet antisocial STEM job tech types that these guys are and it's always best to ask the experts! :D

Heck, maybe we have food for the geeks in the office and buy new video games for the nerds working remotely ? :P

And cut it up and send the pieces all over the planet so everyone can enjoy it a little?

These dudes are everywhere. Also forgot that while the guy who phoned me is normally several blocks away, he's actually in another country right meow.

..which is why I'm kinda leaning towards my idea of asking the ownerman to flip the bill for everyone's favourite local spot they want to support buying dinner from during covidtimes. Especially since we JUST got a brand new set of mitigation restrictions that closed all indoor dining & there's a lot of Facecrack chatter about buying takeout from your favourite places to help keep the doors open.

UNLESS anyone has a better idea ? I'm open to better ideas! :D

... Some kind of nifty gadget? Food seems iffy & pricey compared to some options.

I still think a project racecar is a perfectly decent vicarious thrill.

Covid. Plus I dunno how many ppl here care about any professional sports. Maybe the owner, maaaaybe one or two others I dunno. But even IF covid wasn't going on, that doesn't include ppl working elsewhere at all. But we could do stuff like that in the future.

Iffy why? We have regulations here! You can't just fire up a whale blubber oil grille in your igloo and start serving up grub without foodsafe certification.. food's almost never iffy here! :p

What kind of gadget?

Pricier than what options?

Feel free to elaborate on ideas.

Hell, we have t-shirts and hats and stuff.. one dealer requested hoodies - maybe we should get hoodies made and give the first round to everyone that works here.

- I'll autograph some of my avatars, and you can send them by email.

- Books about British literature.

- Live chicks. I mean, baby chickens - not women.

- A video of Goldfish dancing.

- An all-expense paid trip to Wrong Planet.

... still brainstorming.

The owner has 11 cars and 4-5 of them are project race cars.. we don't need any more race cars until all the race cars we have are finished being built!

Gourmet food baskets, flowers, wine or a sparkling non-alcoholic cider and some yummy cannabis edibles.
That would make my day.

Everyone supporting their local restaurant they want to help keep open during covid lockdowns it is. We'll select one near-ish to the office, but everyone working from home or remotely in another country will be given a budget and instructed to go blow it supporting whichever restaurant they choose. 8)

This particular sales record won't stand long - it was last broken in December - and we'll do it again as early as next month, but it could take 2-3 again. And then it'll fall again.. and again, be smashed after that, and then completely shattered when things really take off. So, there will be more opportunities to support more restaurants, or have some Staff exclusive swag printed up (Hoodies that customers and dealers can't have the exact same prints etc) & then who knows? Other things.. - we already have tentative plans to send the top 3 producers for a day of driving Super Cars on the Sea to Sky Highway sometime later this Summer for their hard work & cooperation training new people and executing expansion plans. But we'll have to come up with Other non-monetary (more meaningful) things to award various people with as we're ever more successful. So, open to ideas - cberg, you'd mentioned tech gadgets or something - feel free to elaborate.

I'm off this morning to deliver whiskey, beer, wine, and a restaurant gift certificate to our largest local dealer. 8) Not even for sales - mostly for complaints, truly. Their feedback is very valuable to us improving our internal systems so we can be better to them & every one of our delears.

For those in the office today we ordered a late lunch early dinner from a local restaurant called The Vault. I didn't hear any complaints so I assume everything was good. I've never eaten there before, but my parents and some friends like the place and we wanted something a little more upscale than the usual takeout. After having them, I can now recommend the curry Kahlua prawns - So Good! 8)

The rest of the morning I spent going to 5 different liquor stores to find all the specific alcohols and beers I wanted to deliver to our biggest local Dealer that we have a pretty good & ever better relationship with -> I took them about 5 dozen beers, 3 bottles of wine, 3 mickeys of specialty whiskey, and a gift card for a local Greek restaurant that's probably been there 40 years that's Very Good, and they'd never been to!! It's one of the places we want to survive Covid lockdown.

I bet by the time those working from home & remote workers all order dinner today, or over the long weekend, that we'll have just blown somewhere around $2K or so on booze & dinner today. Blessed to be in a work situation where we can do that with ease - so spoiled, really, truly. *I* respect & appreciate it Big Time.. some of these guys are too spoiled, so it's somewhat so-so for them. But they're still appreciative.

When Covid is over, as long as things keep going well, we'll change things up and give them different perks - especially once we really make a lot more sales.. why order take out when you can hire a private chef?
