Howdy. I am creating a 10 year (or 5 year - 10 years does seem a bit lengthy) survey for adults on the autistic spectrum. My original idea behind the survey was to a.) give adults on the autistic spectrum a voice (by that I mean, an opinion as to what autism is for you) and b.) to dispel the negative media stereotypes. I truly believe that with education and awareness people are able to learn, and perhaps come to some understanding, of the true definition of autism - whatever that may be. I am seriously considering publishing these results at the end of the survey (whether that's 5 or 10 years) and am currently looking for a someone in the psychologist or neurologist field who is willing to volunteer to ensure the survey is scientific and meets requirements, etc.

The survey is meant to be designed by the adults on the autistic spectrum. For those who wish to become a member of the committee for the survey, the only requirements are that you're 18 and older, agree to participate in the design of the survey, and make a 10 or 5 year committment to whatever the eventual agreed upon length of the survey. For those of you who wish to participate in the committee, please remember that I will have a chat room created on August 01, 2007 at 8:00 Eastern Time in order to chat about the survey's design.

You do not have to participate in the design of the survey to the participate in the survey itself.

Please e-mail me for questions.

The link to my board is: http://www.freepowerboards.com/aassurvey/index.php

You might have to register with the site before it'll let you read it.

Please let me know your ideas and opinions!

Thanks,

Serenity

Not sure if I qualify for a place on your committee as I have no psychiatric qualifications but I've signed up anyway. What happens next?

I should mention that I am accepting diagnosed Aspies, self-diagnosed Aspies, and "NT's" (for a control group - since society uses the "NT" measure to measure all things, regardless). My eventual goal is 50 diagnosed/self-diagnosed Aspies and 50 NT's.

What's next:

If you wish to become a committee member, then on August 01, 2007, there will be a meeting at 8:00 Eastern Time to discuss the design of the survey. Throw out ideas and suggestions. Feel free to bring along your buddy in the psychology or nuerology field (I'm still looking for a volunteer).

If you don't wish to become a committee member, but wish to participate in the surey, then you can post at the board and just hang out until the final release date for the final, final draft of the survey is released :)
