In bars and nightclubs etc why do security/door staff sometimes discriminate against people who are on there own and not in a group?

Single guys are disfavored because they tend to stay alone all night and that brings down the energy (e.g., no one likes a "mopey dope"), and brooding males add ambiance only to goth clubs.

What about a woman who is by herself all night?

Single women are favored (especially the young, attractive ones), because they will quickly be absorbed into another group. This makes everyone happy (except the mopey dope in the corner).

If life was a video game than being a man would definitely be like playing on hard mode.

Why do you think the concept of "Wing-Men" was invented?  A small group of men who look like they are having a good time at a club is more likely than a mopey-dope loner to attract women looking for a good time.

They don't have a much easier time, that's why they typically travel in herds just like the males.

I'm not suggesting that men don't face additional issues when they're on their own, I'm just saying a single person on their own often is viewed as unsuitable to be incorporated into fun group activities regardless of their gender.
