Does wearing a suit make you feel important ?

This may seem like a strange question but I don't know why but when I have worn a suit and tie, it kind of makes me feel like ''somebody'' or that it gives me this absurd feeling of importance than someone not wearing one. I do even seem to envy those people probably who look younger than me I've seen who wear a suit in the work they do as an estate agent, for example whereas I have to wear the uniform given to me from work and that for some reason it makes me feel like they are ''above'' me in terms of the work they are doing because they are in some kind of business that requires you to wear you own nice suit and tie and obviously you can't wear what you like in a retail business sometimes. It seems to give off this implication that they have ''made it'' in someway and that the work I do usually has people working because they just need money not necessarily a career. It has even made me feel that way when I watched episodes of The Apprentice. I can't quite work out what the problem is here.

I think I get what you mean. When I was at university, at the height of the lockdown, I found that dressing up nicely was oddly motivating. I was stuck in my flat a lot of the time and it was sometimes difficult to motivate myself. So I'd dress up as if I were going to go out, then sit at my computer and work away. I'd even take grocery shopping as an opportunity to dress up since I didn't have much of an opportunity otherwise. On occasion I was complimented by the cashiers. They probably wondered where I was going.

Somehow, dressing up made it seem more real and that I had more control over my life. It helped me keep up my spirits. Whereas, on days where I made less effort, I felt less motivated to get up and work. The only exception was a comfortable hoodie that I liked to wear during days where I was programming or video editing, I often think of that hoodie as my programming hoodie even now.

I feel attracted to guys in suits and ties.

I only ever wear suits to go to funerals so it makes me feel awkward.

Is it socially acceptable to go to a funeral dressed as a clown? I feel I need to try something drastic to break my association with suits and death.

My minimum wage job does not have a strict dress code.

I do not want to have to dress up for work.

Sometimes my job gets dirty.

All things equal, people that get all dressed up for work usually have larger salaries and more authority and prestige, than people that wear the company uniform. (Fine). But, especially since coronavirus, not everyone in a high paying job, has to dress up. And some low paying jobs require dressing up. A supermarket hired me for courtesy clerk (grocery bagger) and told me a shirt and tie. Minimum wage. Some upscale restaurants strict dress code.

Yeah, it's like dressing up as someone important. I haven't worn a suit in ages. I don't even own one anymore.

As a kid, I used to like suits since it made me look authoritative. Now that I'm an adult, I despise them. They look stuffy, and I think the pandemic amplified my opinion on this.

I made a vow years ago (15-ish years), that went like this: "No. More. Neckties. No. More. Suits!"
