With cole slaw and hush puppies.
Now I’m hungry.
Once I got a terrible craving for fried chicken and made a special trip to town to acquire some.Sadly the Quick Stop had just closed.I went up to the grocery store to get some chicken to fry myself and they were closed.I forgot everything closes early here in the winter, no tourists, local people mostly home in bed.I got a coke out of a vending machine and wished someone would invent a fried chicken vending machine.
Went home hungry and disappointed.

I keep seeing commercials on TV for Popeyes but there's no locations in the state I live nowadays  I used to eat at Popeyes every week or so when I lived in Louisiana but I only get it now when I go visit my parents.

:wtg: I would eat fried catfish or other fried fish & seafood 1ce a week before I moved to Vermont but the seafood here is NOT the same  I haven't had any since the last time I visited my parents which has been a few years now due to the pandemic & things going on in our lives.

That brings to mind my childhood when Dad was in the US Navy and we only lived in a place for 2 years at a time; there were some big regional differences in both popular types of local foods & in the local ways of cooking nationally popular foods.
Also some dramatic differences in what some things were even called.

"Perhaps no bread in the world is so good as Southern corn bread," he declared, "and perhaps no bread in the world is quite so bad as the Northern imitation of it." What's more, Twain continued, the "art" of frying chicken "cannot be learned north of the line of Mason and Dixon, nor anywhere in Europe."
Mark Twain

Yes, Virginia, there is Truth on the internet! :D

Mom was a nutritionist then a dietitian; was born and raised on a farm in the Missouri Ozarks; partly paid her tuition at MU with scholarships from winning cooking contests.
Mom's 81 now and after a stroke several years back she cooks far less than before, but oh my the food that came out of her kitchen in the decades up till then! :D
She subscribed to Southern Living magazine for at least 20 years and used a lot of recipes from it. She also improved on some of them.

Mom and Dad had to host quite a few functions at home as part of Dad's Navy career and Mom would get so frustrated that their sometimes high-powered guests would want to hang out at her kitchen table nibbling on leftovers from the semi-formal dinner just finished instead of staying in the living and dining rooms she and Dad had put so much effort in to decorating and getting classy furniture for.
"Hey Mom, when people who could potentially blow up the planet are quite content to just sit in your kitchen and eat your food, I think that says quite a lot about you and your food."

/\There was an Andy Griffith episode where Soviet diplomats wind up snacking in Aunt Bea’s kitchen late at night.
People up North don’t have a clue how to cook good greens or biscuits. They make fun of our delicious cream gravy and call it paste.Blasphemy!
No idea what poke sallet is either.
More for us.
Ozark hillbilly here also.

Hehehe! More potential truth in that situation than might be initially expected. :D

Will admit that I know more about a definitely non-edible sallet that keeps you from getting poked than about the salad sallet named poke sallet,

 Back to the edible sallet, a reference for those who might be totally not in the know,

You should avoid newspaper headlines that mention the country of "Hungary".
