What can I possibly expect from therapy?
I haven’t been to therapy since I was 12 years old, and when I was 12 it went very badly. I was forced to go when I didn’t want to and didn’t talk to the lady, and counted the tiles on the ceiling.
Now I am going on my own, to a therapist who specializes in a lot of things, but specifically autism and anxiety, two things I may struggle with. I want to learn more about myself and why I struggle with the things that I do, and why I feel different... and possibly get an assessment at some point, but I’m having trouble preplanning the conversation in my head. I don’t know what to say when I sit down, and I can already feel the awkwardness. I kind of want to abort mission, but I’ve waited months for this appointment. Can anyone help me with what I can possibly expect at therapy? I know it won’t be spot on as every therapist is different...
Talk about the awkwardness you're feeling.
That's a good start.
My main gain from therapy is sorting out what I actually feel about what.
No need to pre-plan it. A pre-planed conversation won't help you with sorting out your feelings.
