I got too drunk at my engagement party, thrown for myself, and threw up in a public bathroom. When I came out and back to the party, my fiancees brother could tell I was very drunk. I’m embarrassed. I also did drugs with friends at the after party, and idk how to say no to those things when I’m around it. Drugs/alcohol make me socialize so much better. When I’m sober I’m awkward, when I’m not I’m more sociable.

If it's hard to say no, why keep going into those situations?

Neither of those things are really all that out of the ordinary for an engagement party. Not ideal to vomit, but it's not like you're the first bride to be that drank too much at an engagement party.

Hopefully the drugs your social circle do are not too harmful. Big difference between people smoking a bit of cannabis or doing meth.

What's done is done, may as well not beat yourself up about it and just carry on with life.

This was great advice, thank you.

I honestly have no idea what people find enjoyable about such things. I really must be a space alien.

I got too drunk at a social event and went to puke in the toilet at the Holiday Inn and head butted the toilet tank and broke it.
Talk about embarrassing.I had to pay damages also.
Now I just think it’s funny.Tearing up hotel rooms like a rock star.

I got drunk a few times in my early 20s. It helped me make some friends among my young male work colleagues. I also drank too much at office parties, as that gave me a chance to act NT. I landed in several similarly embarrassing situations, such as puking all over a municipal bus on the way home. Luckily it was empty and just me and the driver. But I always used to chat with that driver. After that incident, I never took that particular bus again!

After a year or so I decided liquor wasn't for me and that I was abusing it, so I gave it up and focused on running and hiking instead.

It's not embarrassing, as most NTs (without certain religions) value the art of getting stupidly drunk. They will laugh but not at you, they'll just laugh in admiration. It will up your social position and make you more popular if anything. I envy you. I wish I could get drunk like that but I have severe emetophobia where I'm terrified of vomiting so I avoid it at all costs.

the closest i got to toasted, was one hot summer night in the army barracks, under a full moon, i led some barrackmates, all of us in our skivvies, to the hospital where we worked, in the back engineering section was an access ladder that rose about 3 stories, we all climbed the ladder and went in an amazingly unlocked engineering door that, somehow in the darkness, found us walking into the operating room, the on-call tech saw us staggering through and burst out laughing at us. then we exited behind the AOD's desk, he didn't notice us, then we went to another GI's barracks down the hill.

It is nearly a decade since my last drink and close on 14 years since I had an illicit substance. I also behaved like a dropkick when I was tanked up then ended up drinking alone or at early openers. I can understand the fear of not being without a mood altering substance on hand. I'm quite introverted and autistic (otherwise I wouldn't post on this website). But if you have a problem with alcohol and other drugs, it is likely to get worse over time - not better. These days I like the sober me. The drunk me was an unpleasant person who thankfully is no longer around.

As someone who has also struggled with really bad emetophobia, I can't understand why other people act like throwing up in public is no big deal and say things like "it happens all the time", "it's okay, nobody's upset with you". But if you cough or sneeze in public, which are not even close to being as bad, in fact sneezing can bring you much relief, people glare at you and are like, "Omg they got covid or swine flu and we're all gonna be dead in 48 hours" :skull: .

I got blackout drunk once as a teenager and got drunk enough that I puked one other time, and after both of those experiences I now avoid it and just get "buzzed" at most. Though whenever I've talked to my peers or drank with them they don't seem to care about those things much, and like to get really drunk whenever they drink. I guess that's "normal" when you're a young adult.

Cultural differences.

The drinking culture isn’t nearly as.. drunk here as it is in the UK. It’s not nearly as socially acceptable to be that drunk here as it’s not as normalized.

We get a LOT of young Irish people on work visas taking over the frat houses at UBC in the Summer. They drink a Lot more than most people here. Same for other UK workers and visitors - heavy daily drinking is way more common there.

There are still areas of the USA where alcohol is banned today. Town by town, city by city, county by county, state by state there are different drinking cultures all over the USA. Same applies here in Canada. But in general, people in the UK tend to drink a lot more than here.

Yes, very normal. Peoples’ use of and relationship with alcohol tends to change with age and experience. The older you get, the more responsibly you drink.. lower quantity, higher quality, and not for the express purpose of getting drunk. It’s a natural progression for most people who drink alcohol.
