I seem to think that for some people like us with Autism, Aspergers or other conditions, we care little about how we dress and what we look like. I mean for those who are on the more severe end of the spectrum they maybe wear clothes and stuff that maybe their parents bought them or some may like to dress up a favourite character from TV or something despite being adult men and women. I remember someone I saw once who was a fan of Sherlock Holmes and dressed up like him and spoke in a well-spoken Victorian accent. For me, I seem to feel more self conscious about how I look and dress. I didn't want really my parents to buy clothes for me or look like someone I liked from TV or films. I went out I bought clothes that I felt were in the latest fashion. I like wearing check shirts or shirts with tags on the shoulders or pockets on the chest and at times wear them with a jumper over the top or a cardigan during Autumn or Winter or wear them with a T-shirt and wear a pair dark blue jeans. I don't know if maybe its because for some us it is to do with comfort as some us may have sensory problems with certain clothing materials and we may feel distressed or uncomfortable wearing certain types of clothing.

I do, and by choice.

"Comfort & Functionality" first.

"Couture & Fashion" last.

I like the feel and texture of fabric etc
its a sensory thing
Or maybe a fetish thing
I haven't decided yet.
Probably more the latter.

^ +1

and I love the smell of certain types of fabric.

I love the smell of new clothes
I remember the smell of every new outfit I ever had
I love the flowiness of skirts
The hug of tights
The cinch of a belt
Hairbands and headscarves
The orderliness of a well fit housewife style dress
Maybe that's a bit of fetish too but clothes feel better than no clothes
Well most of the time anyway

"We" focus more on comfort and functionality over fashion and trendiness.

As for myself, it's not common for me to have a choice of clothing.
Unless I get lucky on money and buy a few that suit me here and there...

It's only been recently I've been able to buy something more comfortable at all -- everything else are hands me downs and gifts.
Or the fact my mom's ignoring my pleas for years about buying too many unnecessary clothes that I will not wear and it only recently stopped.

And my progress on sewing skills are slow.
Maybe that's because I have no true interest at clothing.

I just wear the same old stuff. If it works, it works, and if it's comfy enough, it's comfy enough. I'll fix holes in my clothes as I can stitch things. I have zero formal wear.

I really hated codes/regs, and I still do. Suspended and disciplined there far too many times, lol. I'm quite stubborn apparently. Autism? Maybe I just like independence and people should wear what they want.

I wear stuff my wife buys for me. Pretty standard UniQlo & H&M.

I did have a short interest in fashion in my early 20s, but because my idea of what was stylish wasn't shared with those around me I failed miserably at being fashionable. Rather must've come across as a clown, especially when paired with that social dysfunction.

I think, my preference for practical clothing is partly due to me being a female aspie. Too bad the rest of the world wants women to wear clothing that is often literal torture to wear.

Shopping for clothes is awful. I hate having to try stuff on to see if it fits or looks okay. I never look good in anything I wear, anyhow.

I get it, we aspies all look like creepy slobs who don't shower or change their clothes, and that's why people aren't attracted to us.

Desperately needed:

Local groups of autistic people who can sew, and who can also make custom clothes for other autistic people in their area who can't find sufficiently comfortable/functional clothes in local stores (and who don't want to order clothes online because we want to try them on before buying them).

The latter is a big problem for probably-many autistic women, including myself.

If anyone here wants to start such a group in your local area, please let me know! I'll happily link to relevant contact info on my website.

Both are true for me.
I pretty much have no idea what the current fashion trends are & no interest in applying effort to finding out.
Yes, I like to look like I care at least a little bit about how I look, with that being secondary to having clothes which do not cause discomfort.

I wear exclusively jeans, T-shirts, sneakers, appropriate undergarments, and often a hoodie, because that’s what I’m most comfortable wearing (even for sleeping). I make sure everything I’m wearing is clean, not wrinkled, and doesn’t have too much pet hair on it before I go anywhere, that’s the extent of my “fashion sense.”

Because I don't want to wear cumbersome clothes. As well as my insensitivity to the cold. My winter attire will be eye-catching.
I had to explain over and over that I didn't feel cold.
When I'm tired of such unexpected social situations, I choose to wear a loose coat to avoid being talked about.

I used to not pay attention to how I dressed at all when I was younger, but now I do a bit more.

I do pay attention to how I dress, for example I have a pair of jeans with roses embroidered on the legs, and I usually wear them with a black T shirt that has a big red rose printed on the front.

I just prefer jeans and T shirts over skirts and dresses.
