I interpret romance differently

Wondering if anybody else relates. OK take "make it real" by the Jets. Its about a 1 year anniversary of being dumped and the singer is still in love.
I sing this song to my absent father or to a friend I can't seem to cultivate a bond with. When I dated, we had our songs, but for the most part, romance makes me cringe.I actually enjoy hearing songs from different perspectives. Another example is "vision of love" by Mariah Carey...my interpretation is that of reaching a dream you fought and prayed would come true. I can imagine she feels similar.
