My 6 year old son is interested in building model trains. So am I. I am very excited. I have wanted to do this since I was 6 years old. When I was growing up, an older neighbor boy had a room with nothing else but model trains, train tracks and everything. I never did get the chance to do anything like that until now

So, apparently we live near a huge model train warehouse. We will have the opportunity to meet with some model train enthusiasts probably next week since we live so close tot he warehouse. It's hard to start small and not stop when you get excited. This will be very difficult for me and for my son. I have a very active two year old that forces me from getting too obsessed and hyperfocused.

My six year old son would have a blast! It would naturally be hard to pull him away when needed but that's fine. He is now willing to learn to read if it means that he will be able to read the model train instructions.

So, if you do model trains, do you have any advice?

Start with a train set. If he is six, there are some nice battery operated train sets to be had at attractive prices.

If he treats that well and with respect then he can progress to an electric train set. H0 or in the uk, 00 are the most popular.
