I want to know why that decide to write books for both demographics. So, what might the be reason?

For the money, of course!

The more genres an author can master, the more opportunities to sell a story.

Simple.

As someone who aims to be an author, I'd say that the reason could be that some stories they've come up with would work better when aimed for children, and some others when aimed for adults.

Of course, I'm sure that money plays a factor in this, too. Children's books usually have way less pages, not to mention they usually have pictures, so coming up with and writing the text often takes less time than writing a novel for adult tastes, yet the books often cost roughly the same, so making children's books can be an equal amount of money with less effort. As for why someone would bother to write books for adults if this is the case, I can find two reasons: they want to tell a particular story and it's not suitable for children, and the kind of reputation and fame one can get from writing successful stories for adults would be different than what they'd get from writing children's books.

Why do you ask?

So. Why would an author gave up writing adult books and stick writing to books for children?

Perhaps the adult books they wrote didn't sell as well, so they decided to go back to writing children's books. Or maybe they just felt like the kinds of stories they want to tell would be better suited to children.

Sometimes a story gets in your head and you feel compelled to tell it, even if the story itself doesn't fit into your usual style or target demographic. So you market it a little differently.

This might be a temporary change, then a return to expected scheduling, or you might discover that you actually greatly prefer this story over the others for whatever reason. Maybe the characters or the setting. Perhaps even the aesthetic or the tone of the work. It just captures your interest so that's where you put your focus.

A lot of writers would have discovered a love of books when they themselves were children. I certainly found a lot of comfort and delight in my books as a child. If I could give that gift to another child I would be delighted to. It's not all about money.
