This is Rachie's idea for a thread so if you don't like it blame her.

Post a picture of an item in your house that you consider a trinket, knick-knack or curio. If it has a story, tell me about it.

Rachie would like to see cute things from around people's homes, or storied objects.

I suppose I better go first.

This is a Victorian caned glass flask possibly made by Nailsea

No story behind it, bought from an auction house and is my GF's 2nd favourite piece of glass.

This a pottery cat possibly made by Emile Galle pottery c1900

Again no story behind it except I couldn't afford it but still bid on it and won it at auction - I couldn't let it go home with anyone else , it is the cat on the left

Lovely!

Now I have antiques-anxiety (similar to performance anxiety, but older.)

Do they have to be antiques?

No , it can be anything you consider a trinket, knick-knack or curio. I think Rachie wants cute but anything goes.

Ferris thank you this is thread is so cuuuute, thank you for making it.

Are you not nervous, letting your cat up next to your statue like that 8O . Although I gather there's no 'letting' cats do anything, they seem to do what they want.

^The parsonage is lovely. Don't let the antiques anxiety get a hold of you lol, it's like Show and Tell at school, it can be anything at all. I don't know if I'm overly material or what but I love all of my stuff, so I thought it would be cool to see what other people have.

This is my mini vampire hunting kit (I would never hurt any mini vampires with it though). It has a little bundle of garlic in there that you can't really see, and also the books are real, you can open them and everything, so I assume the holy water at the top is real too.

That's brilliant Rachey!
I love it and I want to know what you're reading too. :skull:
We need a supernatural thread for the macabre.

Also I don't know how I did this but in my delirious stupor I never saw Ferr's kitty until now.
My brain has been having technical difficulties with EF and I didn't scroll down enough.
Rach I wondered what you meant about his kitty going by his statue.

I just drugged myself so idk if I have the brainspace to take photos but let's see anyway.
brb

Ferris is really a cat burglar and wants to find out where the good antiques and silver are located.

It's an old photo and doesn't live there anymore. I don't think my cats have ever broken anything as they tiptoe around the knick-knacks.

That's an awesome looking kit, did you make it yourself, it would be right up my sister's street (she's an artist and makes miniatures).

I've made an actual vampire hunting kit, I'll try and find photo's. It has an antique bottle of quicksilver , an antique bible , antique crucifix and rosaries, some wooden stakes (made from wood brought back from Romania) , it did have an antique muff gun but that was stolen (probably for the best  ). It was a project that I was gonna sell but kept it just in case.

Awesome 8O It's like one of those stupid psych tests , what do you see first explains your personality.

What jumped at me was gun, skull, arrowhead, pipe, glass bottle, lamp, fossil.

Any stories, or are they all gardening finds?

Most of the fossils I found while walking the river bed when it dries up.Some were gifts from friends.
My son gave me the old gun, he found the arrowheads at a bluff shelter and has a huge collection.I found the skull in the woods, bobcat I think.
The old pipes are clay trade pipes and found in the woods by my son.
A huge cave crystal, also a gift.A price of petrified wood from a gravel pit in South Arkansas and a civil war canon ball and WW1 bayonet cover, also gifts.
He gave me the old miners lamp, they used to mine zinc here and there are some old shafts up the road. You can’t get in them, they blasted them shut. The opening aren’t very large, I can’t imagine crawling around in them.
The glass bottle is suppose to be an old nitro glycerine bottle.I can’t remember where I got it.I have lots of old bottles .

^ Do you have a favourite? The arrowheads on the bottom shelf are fantastic.

This is a curio piece for me.

I don't know if anyone else will be interested but it's extremely sentimental and something I would never part with.

As some of you know my dad's family are boaters. They came from Devon England and started building cabin cruisers here. After I was born in hospital I went straight to our boat and spent most of the summer there before I even entered our house.

This is a Log Book I found which chronicles the guests and journeys they made between 1957 - 1966, which is before I was conceived or born. My parents hadn't even met yet in 1957. One of the trips was from Toronto, Ontario along the St. Lawrence Seaway through Quebec and the Maritimes to the sea, where they continued south to Florida.

I love it because it has lots of nautical information but also my grandparents' and dad's handwriting as well as weather reports and the prices they paid for various things like food, gasoline, or docking fees. I can trace the route and research all the marinas. It's also cool to know my grandparents were together because they separated when I was just born and I don't remember them together at all. By the time I was five my grandfather vanished on a mysterious autistic burnout, not to return for eight years. By then my grandmother had died.

Enjoy. Hope this is OK but I can't put it down lately.
