What would happen?

I would say that more animals would be hunted for meat. And they would suffer more than they would have at the slaughterhouse.


Some people want all the slaughterhouses to be closed.

Meat would be a lot more expensive. More people would be vegetarian out of necessity.

There'd be a lot more feral cows and pigs.

Probably a lot would die because they wouldn’t know how to survive in the wild.

I'm pretty sure the pigs would manage, otherwise they wouldn't already be a problem. Suddenly we'll all have 30 - 50 hogs in our backyards within 3 - 5 minutes.

The cows might struggle more, but I'd anticipate in a lot of areas they'd be fine too. Anywhere they have access to range land and were raised essentially free range they'd probably manage. Around where I live they'd struggle more.

Pigs, yes, but cows would still be used for milk.

Not that I've seen, but we're supposed to report them or destroy them (and then report them) if seen.

If it's just a lack of slaughter houses, we'd just kill them outside.

I assumed we wouldn't be able to keep them, but if we can keep them, we'll kill them.

Pigs revert.With cows it would depend on available forage.Domestic poultry from turkey and chicken houses would all die.
Predators would take them out.They are so large they can’t even walk , white, and obese, forget about flying into a tree.

More backyard / basement / garage abattoirs would be built, and you would see fewer stray dogs on the street.

I'd start farming and eating worms.
I've heard they taste like bacon!

Something needs to be done about animal cruelty, but at the same time, I need to be able to buy meat to feed my carnivore pets. A vegetarian diet is not a viable option for them.

Vegetarians have harmed their pet dogs and cats by feeding them vegetarian diets which the bodies of dogs and cats are not designed for.

Even a Stalinist dictator couldnt get away with just "shutting down all the slaugherhouses" overnight.

It would mess up society (from both the consumer end and producer ends) too much. There would be both malnutrition and an economic collapse from the elimination of jobs.

Society might evolve to the point where (a) more folks are vegetarian, and (b) the remaining carnivores would eat hotdogs made by industry out of ground up domesticated insects, and (c) they find economical ways to grow steaks and porkchops in lab factories without having to raise the whole cows or pigs (thus can harvest the steaks and chops without slaughtering any animals) . So there would still be meat eating but it would not be meat eating as we know it today.

Folks who grow up in this future world will be...shocked...the we today even had slaughterhouses (like we view slave owning or bear baiting by our ancestors today).

Imagine a near future POTUS...a combination of Reagan and Obama (worshipped by right and left alike as the greatest guy ever) and then...fifty years later they find a photo of him mugging in front of the camera at a company bull roast. The children of this future time will be so shocked at the sight of their one time hero laughing and smiling in front of that poor cow roasting on a spit that...his memory will be banished from history books forever!

My pets eat grain-free carnivore diets. Who gives pets vegetarian?
