kitchen sink has been clogged for over two weeks. too lazy and incompetent to fix.

a lot of ants, spiders, and flies in house. two years ago, one day, a lot of flies in kitchen. cops knocked on door and told me the next door neighbors ordered a Welfare Check on my house, b/c they thought I was dead, b/c there were a lot of flies. the cops did not do anything bad or wrong, but merely looking at them scared me and made it hard(er) to sleep that day.

I'm not sure what you are looking for here - advice? Support? I would advise you to do something though as history has a way of repeating itself.

You might be able to unclog the kitchen sink just by pouring Liquid Plumber down the drain, following the instructions. That's fairly easy to do.

Cleaning up to get rid of flies is more challenging, but maybe you can break up the task and do a little at a time? Get paper towels and a spray cleaner.

For stuck on messes use a powder like Ajax. Sprinkle some water on the powder and let it sit while it turns blue, then scrub with a scrubbie sponge. You might have to repeat several times. But I wouldn't try to do too much at once.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ants and spiders, but once you clean they will mostly go away too.

Having the cops come to my house would scare me too.

Even if you can't clear the clog, you should bail out the sink - standing water will only attract more insects and vermin.

Nice work getting the sink emptied out, it was probably an unpleasant job considering how long the water had been sitting

I don't have this problem to the same extent as you, but I relate to having messes that keep getting worse and feel harder and harder to take care of the longer you leave them

well try liquid plumber, you can get it generic for like 2.00, but if that isn't an option you can pour hot water down the drain and then at least half a bottle of dawn or other dishsoap but if using a different probably the whole bottle, and let that sit for like a half hour and then rinse it out. then again if it is so clogged nothing will drain you may need someone to come and do mantinence on it.

generally for me there has to be some kind of crisis before i have the energy/impetus to clean up my pig sty and get it in recognizable order. this happens more seldom than a blue moon. wish it were different. why does being neat and tidy have to be so GD hard??

Good advice.
If Liquid Plumber does't work OP, you could try hydrochloric acid. My dad worked in construction(offically retired a couple years ago but will still work some for indivudals) & he used that on clogged toilets at home. The acid is probably more dangerious so it was never dad's 1st step. It was the one right before taking the toilet out or calling a professional plumber. You might have to go to a hardware store to get the acid. Try something safer like Liquid Plumber 1st.

You either do it or you don't do it, you don't get a medal either way but you will feel more at peace both at home and when going out into the world.

_____________

Rossall

Yesterday I purchased a sink plunger from home Depot and tried to plunge the sink

Failed

Either I am using the wrong technique or the sink is clogged so much that no amount of plunging will unclog it

Mine took a few days of plunging to unblock it. Don't give up.

Fill the sink with water and then plunge with as much force as you can.

I hate plunging the sink. It makes me wretch.

Even just spitting toothpaste down it clogs it up over a period of time.

I had this issue with my sink recently. Dismantled part of the pipework and cleaned out a couple of sections, but couldn't fit them back together again, so had to call the plumber anyway, lol. Cost me £72.
