i would but first i'd get down to brass tacks with them in terms of what exactly they will clean for me. i want my $200 worth of cleaning which means the WHOLE APARTMENT TOP TO BOTTOM. cobwebs in top corners, dust everywhere, bathroom, kitchen, living room to where it looks immaculate.

No, because I can do it myself.

Is it worth paying $200 for someone to clean an apartment if you cannot do it yourself or do not have time etc? Depends.. depends on the size of the apartment, how dirty it is, if they're bringing their own tools/cleaning supplies, how long it takes them to do the job etc.

Professional cleaning services here would probably charge $200 for a 4-5 hour job. There are some cheaper providers that might do 6, 7, or even 8 hours work for $200, but most companies would charge more for that especially if they have vehicle expenses etc etc. Smaller companies, independent cash contractors etc tend to be a bit cheaper. I've noticed quite a few cleaning services advertising on Facebook. There are people who are willing to do cleaning work for $25/hr cash. If they're fast workers, that's a very cheap price. Thing is you've also go to be able to Trust your cleaning person not to steal from you.. so, unless you get a recommendation from a family member or friend it might be too risky hiring the cheapest people because they could be thieves. So, there's value in paying a higher price to a reputable company sometimes.

Also, costs of things are largely location dependent. You and I both live on the West Coast where everything is very expensive. $200 is probably market rate for someone to show up and thoroughly clean an apartment, especially if it's quite dirty and they need to clean bathrooms, vacuum, clean the kitchen, wash floors, take out garbage etc etc.

Whether cleaners or carpenters, it typically costs at least $100 to get anyone to show up and do anything at all for 1-2 hours these days. So if they're gonna show up and do ~5 hours of hard work cleaning everything really well, then it's probably simply what it costs these days to have someone come do the work.

But if they're coming to just wash dishes and take out the garbage for $200 and they're done in 90 minutes then that's really expensive. Depends what the scope of work is whether or not it's a fair value for $ spent or not.

The 3 jobs I had were cleaning related. 1st was dish-washing & my other two were custodial. My highest pay not counting overtime & holiday pay was 8.60 an hour. When I wasn't allowed overtime it took three days for me to earn $200. That was $15 years ago but the federal minimum-wage has not gone up since then. Since I'm disabled & we're majorly struggling financially lately, I would be very interested in finding a job doing something similar & earning Vermont minimum-wage(Vermont's minimum-wage is about 2wice the federal) for an extra $200 every month. I def would not be hiring someone to clean our apartment but I barely do any housework at home. It's a lot easier to put things off at home & for me to get distracted & side-tracked at home than in a workplace setting. I do think goldfish is right about $200 being reasonable for a day's cleaning, especially in areas with higher minimum-wages & higher cost of living thou I would not chose to pay it.

It is a professional cleaning service, I had this woman come before, a friend set it up for me. But I think $200 is too much for one bedroom. There should be a discount for disabled people.

Depends on several factors if it's too much or not. Size, location, how dirty it is, scope of work etc.

Why should people/businesses earn less money for their work because they're doing the work for someone who's disabled? It's the same work. Rather than a discount, I'd prefer that government/social assistance subsidized cleaning services for people who are disabled and cannot do their own cleaning. But the person doing the work should still get paid properly for their work.
