Idk I have been having a bit of a rough time, lately feels like my stupid chronic depression spiking a bit and last month was the anniversary of my PTSD trauma. So idk this month I figured I could afford to treat myself to some noise cancelling headphones, that were like 130 bucks. Said to my boyfriend, 'I don't have any other big expenses and will still be able to afford my part of the rent.
So of course next day my scooter I use to go to work breaks down, luckily it wasn't till I was close to my work so I was able to just walk it the rest of the way there, then when my boyfriend got off work we went over to my work to pick up the scooter. But yeah seems like the brakes got some kind of issue so then due to safety features it wouldn't let me accelerate, so seems like I will have to take into a shop or something that can look at and potentially fix scooters.
So goodbye to the 'no big expenses' this month since I had to buy a bicycle to get to work, like I cannot afford to just get another 400 dollar scooter right now, but found a bicycle at Walmart for 143 dollars that seems decent enough, so it will have to do. I just hope next week goes more smoothly. I can still afford my rent just fine, but didn't anticipate my scooter would break down and I'd have to buy a bicycle to get to work so that still lowers the money I have per day. Also though it has been years since I have ridden a bike so I think this weekend I will try it out more to make sure I have a good enough handle on it to ride it to work next week.
Also though bike theft is big in this town, idk...but I have a chain lock, it is heavy but apparently if you use one of those bike thiefs are more likely to move on to find wire chains and such than try and break a chain lock. So idk I suppose it is worth the extra weight to carry a chain lock, if they really are the hardest to break. Cause yeah I looked at reviews and stuff and they are great for security but well they are heavy so if you put it in your back pack it will weigh you down.
I miss mr. scooter though, idk I will still look into if there is any hope for poor mr. scooter, but in the meantime it wouldn't be bad to get back used to riding a bicycle and could provide me some much needed exercise. And idk I am kind of looking forward to trying my bicycle out on the trails a bit so it's not all bad.

I am sorry to hear of the fate of your scooter, Sweetleaf.
I imagine going to work on a bicycle would be a lot harder than a scooter and that might impact your available energy at work? Unless you have excess energy in any case, which wouldn't make of a difference in such a scenario.
Money & budgeting is hard. I wish you well in getting back on track with things!
my pets often get expensive issues just as soon as i think i have some $$ to play with.
so i understand.
I bike commuted for years, wish i still did...
anything you use for transportation is going to need maintenance...
this will definitely be the case for a big-box-store bike...
and yes, bike theft is apparently a popular hobby in itself.
if either of you are "handy" or mechanically inclined at all, i would recommend
searching youtube for repair infos... especially with the scooter, it may be
within your reach to fix/replace parts.
good luck!

Maybe you can find instructions online for how to troubleshoot and repair the scooter yourself ? YouTube ? Could be a common problem and whatever a shop would do to fix it might be well documented online so you can DIY. Who knows, maybe it's as simple as some dust blocking a sensor or something and it just needs to be cleaned ?
Also, perhaps this is a lesson in personal finances and budgeting.. spending 100% of your income each month isn't ideal. If you have no major expenses for your unspent ~$150, a priority ought to be saving it just so that when a major expense comes up you can absorb it and not be flat broke. (Maybe you've already accounted for this?) Just saying.. some savings in the bank are a big stress relief vs. new headphone purchase that can be delayed until they're on sale or something and your savings are built up a bit.
Curious what you learn about the scooter and what it takes to fix it. Also curious if it's a common expensive problem or a rarity, and if investing in a more expensive model would cost less in the long run if it's more reliable/less prone to expensive failures. Maybe.. but also maybe very difficult to impossible to pay for a "better," one with limited budget, much like the classic story of guys who buy $80 work boots every few months instead of a $300 pair that will last for 2-3 years. It's VERY expensive to be poor. :/

I've found online forums particularly helpful with this kind of problem.
Google Escooter forums, join, and ask questions.
Sometimes it can be a really simple fix you can do yourself, or they can tell you where to find parts or cheaper service options.
