Who remembers that then?
Yes. And if I recall it was in a Mk1 Ford Transit van but as we disn't see the front of the van, it was hard to tell if it were a petrol or a diesel powered van. Also was it twin wheelbase or single? Need to see the advert again me thinks!
Ooh. Just found it. It was a petrol engined Mk1 Ford Transit. I used to go half way to school in a mini bus version of this, and it met the big bus... Used to pick us up at around 0730 to get to school before 0840 after the bus change. The big bus then went on to another two schools I believe which is why our school time started earlier. At times the big bus broke down and some of us kids would get out to push it. It took around 11 of us kids to be able to push it (30 or the 52 seat bus. They actually were just as easy to push, though the older 30 seat bus needed pushing more often. The larger busses were old enough as they were! But they were good enough for the school run!
The smaller Mk1 petrol Transit bus (12 seat) was an older bus in those days but Mr James kept it in immaculate condition. He used to run a larger bus company doing continental coach tours but he went bankrupt. He said a friend lent him money and he bought that minibus along with a fueral car, as he was also an undertakers, and he managed to get the school contract. He had his bus resprayed into his old bus company colours and it was excellent! The rare few times Mr James could not make it, his wife would take over. Wasn't often. Mr James loved trains, especially model trains, and before he sold his funeral business, I got to see his large attic where his railway was! No scenery but 12 (Or was it 14) circles of track inside each other where he could set all his trains to run at the same time! Not exactly my idea of a model railway but it still was FUN! He had three Gaugemaster Model Q four track controllers. I did mention what I would do in the space he had and he listened with interest. (I mentioned a double track main line but use the rest of the space for sidings, a station etc... Probably a loco depot (He had the room)).
Memories!
