Has the show been taken off the air? They used to show it Friday nights but now they are playing Surviorman which is not as good. Just wondering if they took Bear Gryllis off the air? It was one of my fave new shows, next to Lost of course.

suviorman is probably a little more real. since bear was caught using his backpack as a floaty device, in that colorado river scene

I didn't know anything about the floaty device. But the Survivorman guy sucks. He's boring and Bear goes to more exciting places and does insane stuff.

I agree Survivorman is more boring but ironically his advice is more realistic. Man vs Wild guy does alot of physical things that are
insane and waste energy. The different is clearly theatrics is more entraining than a documentary.

I admit, very true. Like some of Bear's stunts of stripping to boxers then jumping in the muddy peat bog was stupid when he could just have walked around it. I mean it was only a few feet wide. Or the jumping in ice water when you could have walked a 1/2mile further in order to cross the stream and saved precious body heat.

But he goes to neat places like the isolated snow and glacier covered mountains where its like no one else had ever been. It's certainly a place I will never see and it was nice to see what it looks like on the peak. And the way they filmed it you can see the wind and how fierce it was.

Survivorman cheated the other night though because he busted up one of the video cameras to get the lens so he could start a fire. Now isn't that cheating because most people will not have a video camera with them if they get stranded in the wilderness. He should have started his fire the old fashion way.

Bear is also easier on the eyes. He's goodlooking whereas Survivorman is all scruffy and looks like my ex's scudzy brother.

That gives me an idea for another show. I will have a tough Xena like woman that is ex-military or police that does similar things as
Man vs Wild but she will have lots of field made bikinis ,close ups of sweat on her body, bending over, etc

I happen to like both shows. I agree that Bear does appear better and he sometimes does stupid things just to show but he's more interesting to watch. Survivorman is more real and gritty but he makes good use of whatever he has on him to get by.

Bear was in the SAS, if you don't believe he can do that sort of thing fine. They have to make a TV show at the end of the day. He broke his spine on a training exercise in South Africa and was discharged. After months and months of rehabilitation he became the youngest person to climb Everest at 23 in 1998.

He comes for a combat perspective, so he will try to find a way out quickly in most case. If you’re interested in a similar thing look up Chris Ryan.

If you interested in more woodman traditional and genral survival skills look up Ray Mears, it is more applicable to people who are not physically fit.

I remember when I watched the movie "Bravo Two Zero" I did alot of online study of it to see how much was real. I take it Chris Ryan
is the real deal since he really evaded capture and told the truth.

Well nobody knows who Andy McNab is because his identity not been revealed, but the evasion of Chris Ryan has pretty much been accounted for. Plus he always says there is no rules, if you see a car with the keys in the ignition take, it if will help your cause.

I have been watching survivor man since the beginning, seen every episode. I love learning how to survive on my own, and learned much from LES. He is practical! And I think hes a cool guy.

Bear is to flashy, i knew that show had to be falwed. He was rowing a boat in cold wated with chunks of ice floating all around and I gotta tell ya, for someone who is 'trained' he had no idea how to paddle. Had he been in a canoe or rowboat with me i woulda got pissed real quick.

I saw some footage on youtube, seems much of his show is 'made up.' I had a feeling things were not as real as he wants ppl to beleive. Dont get me wrong, i liked the show, not nearly as much as survivor man (in fact we argue about this at work alot) but his stunts are kinda over the top, I learned nothing practical from him, whereas Les I would use much of his knowledge, i even watch re-runs so i can pick up on more info i may have missed.

Bear may be special forces, but in the wilderness Les is king!!

Les doesn't go out alone. He had a camera man with him on the last episode. He spoke to the cameraman who spoke back to him. And like I said Les is dog-ugly and look's like my ex's loser brother so I have reason to hate his guts for that alone.

That said I stay up late mesmorized to watch Bear, but I just can't get interested in Les' show. I mean its boring as heck. I can't sit still watching it for even 15 minutes.

While that is somewhat sexist comment I have to admit I would be tempted to watch it if she truly was hot and smart. However I can't think of any lady who is brilliant in survival skills and is also sexy. Most extreme outdoorsy women with muscle that I know of are all bull dykes. And as a dyke I will be the first to say man-dykes are not sexy. Ugh. Now you know why I'm still single.

That sounds to me like it would be like watching Bubba with a beer gut stringing trotlines out in the wilderness. I think part of the survival skills should be being physically fit especially with strong upper body for climbing.

Even if no one much likes Bear here besides me, I'm still glad you folks are enlighten enough to know what I am talking about. I mean I've tried the topic at work and no one has seen either show. And we live right in one of the most rugged mountainess areas of the US and you would think the shows would be raging successes here for crying outloud!
