Someone gave me a tiny bottle of this Mexican seasoning salt a few months back. So good! Finally found myself in a little Mexican store that sold it yesterday and bought a big bottle + a small bottle of a habanero version.

It's flavoured with chillis and lime. Tastes so good. I can imagine this seasoning salt single handedly being responsible for people consuming too much added salt.

I know.. of all the foods and flavours to get excited about it's just seasoning salt but damn is it ever good! If you've never tried it, ya gotta.

Did you have to go to a Mexican store to get it? In the U.S. it's sold in regular grocery stores. People put it on fruit and stuff like that. It's really good.

I almost exclusively shop at Costco. I doubt it’s sold at Superstore or Save-On-Foods or Safeway. The Mexican sections are super basic. The ethnic section that has a lot more selection is for Indian foods and some other Asian foods more so than Mexican because that’s who lives here. There are more than 100,000 Indians in my suburb city alone.. there are definitely Mexicans here working farm and construction jobs, but their numbers are tiny in comparison.

There are small shops for various ethnic foods dotted around. Mexican, African, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Korean, etc etc. Some of them have some really high end gourmet stuff!

But yeah, I’m general you have to go to one of very few Mexican stores for anything proper besides some basic hard shell taco kit made by old elpaso or whatever.

When I was in a store just South of the border in Washington state they had like 15 different seasoning salts but not this one. The dollar store across the parking lot said they normally stock little bottles, though.

I’d expect you’d find stuff like this in many American supermarkets, but we just don’t have the population here for it to be commonplace.

They sell it at gas stations here.

I'm not a fan of lime, though.

Gas stations here Mostly don't have much in the way of grocery items.. well, the chain ones don't. But independent gas stations in small towns often have an aisle that has some basic ingredients and things in it.

Like, you don't like the flavour of lime at all? 8O I guess that's a thing, just can't say I've ever met anyone that doesn't like lime. It's not my favourite or anything.. but I like it. Hell, I have a couple limes in my backpack right now actually lol as I bought them with the Tajin and I've been slicing wedges off to squish into bottles of Corona to drink with Ken Foster when I go visit late night.

Can you put Tajin on fries or chicken?

..yes.

It's salt with chilli and lime. Put it on whatever you want to be flavoured with it.

I also bought a bag of candy that was gummy watermelon rings with Tajin on the outside. They were okay. The even better thing I bought was dried mango slices coated in Tajin.. those are really tasty.

I opened up some canned chicken meat today and mixed mayo and Tajin in it and ate it with some sweet potato crackers.

I might give Tajin a try then, in that case.

Thank you for the tip, goldfish.

The store I work at just had it in the produce section these days. I doubt Safeway would be any different.

..grocery stores don’t all sell the same products everywhere in every country.

One woman I know has bought it at a different Mexican foods shop in Vancouver. But neither of us have ever seen it at a mainstream supermarket.

Online is a godsend for obscure foods

I haven't come across a food that can't be bought online, even if some require a more intense search.

They don't, but if it's a large chain, then a good chunk of the stuff is going to be the same, and I'm not even in an area with a larger than normal population of Mexican people.I'm just about as far as humanly possible in the lower 48 from Mexico.
