I plan on learning more languages at some point, including Icelandic, Swedish (my favorite Youtuber Joel is Swedish) and Finnish. I'm wondering what is the best way to learn languages.

To answer the title question, I am very interested in language learning. I've never successfully learned a second language though so I don't have any advice.

Immersion (surrounding yourself by the language as much as possible) and Anki seem to work for me. Though reaching fluency level would need other ways I believe.

Not obsessed but I'd love to learn more languages. I like the idea that if you have different words and different grammatical structures, maybe you can have different thoughts, things you could never think of in your own language.

I have my GCSE French and German but that's it.

Sigh. I'm not going to learn any language other than English.

I tried.
- During my school years I took a French class. I did terrible.
- Later I signed up for Latin. It is the only class I've ever failed.
- So I took Spanish 1. I did poorly but good enough to get into Spanish 2.
- Spanish 2 I did terrible in.

Four years of foreign language classes.

If you add up the grades for all four classes I have enough for an "A" in one class. :pale:

But I get along well with computer languages! Hand me the manual, please!

I’m obsessed with language learning. I’ve gotten to the point where I can enjoy French and Spanish literature. Someday I might add another language just for fun. Well, it’s all just for fun for me. I struggle to talk to people in my own language. Languages just fascinate me, and I love being able to enjoy native content - books, movies, music, and podcasts.

Love learning about languages. But actually learning languages...enough for any kind of fluency...not so much.

Did ok in French in gradeschool and in Spanish in middleschool and high school. Envy and admire those of you who can read and or converse in several languages.
