They are big carriers of dead batteries. It is really easy to find flashlights with dead batteries.

The have flash light where you can charge the batteries by turning a crank

Yep, I had a shake flashlight as well.They generally use capacitors and as long as those capacitors are of good quality, they can last a very long time.

Some various handheld devices with rechargeable batteries also have a flashlight feature like cellphones, tablets, portable radios, & even stun-guns.
