Do you need all this when cutting hair?

I think it depends on what hairstyle you are trying to create. I cut my own hair and I just use a pair of ordinary scissors. I don't know if you are thinking of cutting your own hair, but if you don't have experience I would keep it very very simple.

Let's see... The last person who cut my hair was Ewa, using a comb and kitchen scissors. So...Around 1985.
Nearly 50 years of long hair...and still no bald patch.

I've been shaving my head since my mid 20s. Andis Style liner II works quite well.

I go to an Asian hair salon for my undercut every 4 months when I get my surplus cheque.

$16 pair of hair cutting scissors for trimming the split ends off my hair for the past four years.

Does it make a difference if it hair cutting scissors?

Yes, a poor pair of scissors will cause split ends! You could experiment on a few hairs to see whether any will give a good cut but for $16 I just bought the proper tool.
