I find myself visiting the same few websites when I know there are billions of websites. I know where to find news (I mostly read The Guardian and the New York Times) and other mainstream publications like the New Yorker, which I like okay but is often more serious than what I'm looking for to just relax. There's a website called Arts & Letters Daily (aldaily.com) that aggregates articles from various sources but it too is quite serious and pretty academic. I like it okay but I would like to read things that are smart but not so intellectual and heavy. There's WP of course... And Facebook. (And YouTube but I'm not really looking for videos.)

Are there websites that you like to read, or where you enjoy interacting with others?

WP
dictionary.com (to resolve linguistic disputes in my family)
NYT (only for Wordle)
Discord if that counts

Other than things for school that's about it. I should read the news more but I never feel like I have time to.

I spend a lot of time online,
The websites I visit change as often as my Interests do.
At the moment I visit
WP (Yes I do come here, even if I'm less active)
Youtube
Reddit ( mostly from Google searches. I dislike the home page)
Typing.com

Actually, no where.

This is just a stupid habit acquired from coping with a burnout that lasted over a year during teenage years.

And if browsing the internet hadn't existed then, I'd just ended up watching TV continuously instead; continuing the same stupid coping mechanism of a habit that my late childhood crap dealing with.

If not tech, I'd probably still turn into reading; which again, more of a distraction over whatever subconscious shite than an actual want.

Wrongplanet obvs.

I also do the Wordle on NYT website most days.

I'm getting better at not reading news websites obsessively.

I look at Facebook marketplace a lot.

YouTube.

That's about it. I don't really have any other hangouts. Throughout my online life I've usually had one forum or another that I frequent regularly for 'socialising' purposes but I don't think I've ever had more than one at once.

I used to really like blogs in which people wrote about their personal experiences and thoughts, sometimes with some political content, but that was 20 years ago and don't know if any still exist or where I would find them. I used to have a group of blogs that I followed.

Everything has moved to social media but social media is just not that interesting. On Facebook I only follow people I actually know and most of their posts are and have to be generic to apply to a generic audience, rather than people who share interests.

I like forums like WP but that too is an old fashioned medium and I don't know of many others.

I used to like blogs too.

I'd rather read a lengthy post by someone, even (particularly?) if I disagree with them, because then I can see their logic, or at least their thought process. To write a blog post takes considerable engagement with a subject, and to respond to it you need to have thought about and considered it all. Perhaps that's what social media has broken. Everything is too short, too off the cuff. You can say things without really thinking them through and reply in a similar manner. Maybe that's why the format seems to breed arguments. It's a shallower discussion, in my opinion. Although forums like this have that problem too, I suppose.

A lot of journalists and serious writers/thinkers seem to be on Substack these days. That's a good place for longform articles.
