December is here. Have anyone started Xmas shopping or started early? Do you have any plans for Christmas?

I'm very anxious about Christmas. Normally I would fly out to see my sister and nephew but I have been so unwell that I'm not sure if I can or should. I still haven't decided, though it's pretty much time to buy my plane tickets. I also don't know what to get my sister, and my nephew, especially, as presents. My bf actually told me what he wants, though he still has to send me a link of where to get it.

Every year I plan to do my Christmas shopping early because I really like the run up to Christmas but gift shopping stresses me out something rotten and it spoils it for me. But every year I fail to do that. I've got a couple of things already but not seriously started Christmas shopping yet.

I doubt it. They're always in, bloody noisy until 3am and the kid who has ADHD and autism will probably be there running around.

Hopefully I'll be out of this s**thole in 15 months time once I can bid for an over 55s bungalow.

I am unemployed. There will be no Christmas shopping this year. I love getting gifts for people so this breaks my heart. Not the first time I have been in this situation. I just didn't think it would take me this long to get a job... Grrr. I just want to work and make money. Why do I have to go through what are practically auditions to make money??? Grrrrr....

All my gifts are homemade or at least very inexpensive. That way I save money, I avoid supporting the commercialization of Christmas, I get the enjoyment of making things, and the gifts turn out better because I made them the way I wanted them. But I love giving gifts, it's one of my favorite parts of Christmas.

I thoroughly approve of making your gifts. Somebody has to stand up against the commercial thing, and that personal touch seems more valuable by far.

I'm hoping it'll be "business as usual" for me, i.e. I'll barely notice the occasion and will mostly stick to my normal routine. I stopped giving presents and cards a long time ago, though I might do one day, on a small scale, if the mood takes me. But currently most of my friends are across the Atlantic and the international postage rates are way too extortionate. I'm notoriously difficult to buy stuff for anyway. Nobody knows what I want. If so I hope I can think of something more original than most of the stuff I've noticed. I'll probably exchange a few "Merry Xmas" phrases with one or two family members (and say it back to anybody who says it to me) just out of politeness.

I'm hoping to eat my usual daily type of food with little or no alterations. I thoroughly enjoy my normal food so I don't really want to change that. Sometimes I've done something vaguely Xmassy on a whim. One year I got a very small artificial Xmas tree. Minimalist gesture. It was still there the following year. I'm not really geared up to rituals. They were fun when I was a kid, when they were new to me, but eventually I got bored with them and they fell by the wayside.
