Not to mention the economic impacts that would result.

I live in the rural South West of the UK so blast zones and immediate fallout are not a concern.
Problem is, in this interconnected age with centralised food distribution and power supply disruption combined with a high probability of a breakdown of social cohesion and order everyone would be impacted significantly no matter how remote.
It would also be highly likely that a large number of displaced people from urban areas would flood into more rural ones - in an unplanned and uncontrolled way.
When I read about people hording and arming themselves I am rather bemused as to how they think that will really play out. There is a high probability that others would simple take all of this from them.
If it were a full scale nuclear exchange my preference would be to be near one of the main blast areas at a distance where I can be instantly vaporised. The world is a nasty and dangerous place as it is - I dont think I would like to be around in the horror that would follow a nuclear war.

I live in Texas. We have so much food we could eat on our property if it came to that.We have lots of animals we could hunt on our property if it came to that. One animal could last a whole year.We also have a lease that is further out that we could escape it to.A lot of people in Texas have guns for SHTF and self-defense.Most in Texas would most likely use their guns against people from the cities who come to steal from them in that situation.

Sadly you can't eat gold and if SHTF severely enough it might be hard to trade precious metals for things that have actual value like food, water, ammo, building materials, etc.

Yes, that makes sense. Your culture is probably better suited to a scenario like this.
Here in the UK we no longer have the kind of culture where it is legal for individuals to protect themselves, their families or property by use of force. It is incredibly difficult to own any kind of firearm and pistols are completed banned.
Not that there would be any effective law and order in place especially in the immediate aftermath of a nuclear war - however the UK population would be ill equipped practically and psychologically for the kind of action needed for personal and family survival.

Gold and Silver is for preserving wealth not bartering and also for bribing border guards.and moving to another country if we had to.My parents wont let me buy anything for prepping right now besides gold and silver. They wont let me buy food for prepping. No bottled water either.I would buy prepping food over silver but my parents forbid from doing that.My family has enough ammo for most SHTF situations.

Don't things like precious metals only work to preserve wealth if they retain wealth?
I feel like they work well for that purpose if SHTF moderately, but if it happens more severely they lose all value because people start to value useful things over not-useful things.

I am not too worried about that because gold and silver has never lost all its value in history.Gold and silver has always been worth something throughout recorded history. The gold and silver would become more valuable if the dollar collapsed. The gold and silver is for taking to another country so I can exchange the metal for the local currency.Silver may become more valuable because its used in electric vehicles so there will be more silver demand.I would priortize more useful things but my mom and dad will only let me buy gold and silver for prepping so i have to listen to them.

That makes sense, especially given some of what you've mentioned about them in the past.
That's the problem with recorded history, when SHTF badly enough history stops being recorded, at least temporarily.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the Bronze Age collapse, but that's a good example of a social collapse bad enough to make a bunch of societies cease to be literate.
Similar happened in some areas due to the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, like Britain.
Hopefully none of us ever experiences times anywhere near that interesting.

Okay.I have not familiar with that collapse.I mostly have gold and silver in case the dollar goes to zero which could happen in nuclear war.

A while ago I had a few dreams where nuclear blasts made an appearance so I suppose I must be somewhat worried about it. In all cases it was just a matter of the sky lighting up and becoming aware there must have been a blast somewhere and feeling panicked over what to do next.
I have no interest in living in a post apocalyptic world. Like Velorum I'd much rather a bomb landed right next to me and I never had to know anything about what came after.
