Do they have to be in English? I know a lot of Scots (a dialect of English) words which sound fun and descriptive.

dreich - miserable, cold and wet weather (the ch is pronounced like loch)
drookit - dripping wet (if you had been caught in a heavy downpour)
sleekit - sly
gie it laldy - to do with great gusto

Good luck with the poetry. Robert Burns did quite well using Scots!

Gallimaufry is one of my favorites, and thus my username:

gal·li·mau·fry [gal-uh-maw-free]

–noun, plural -fries.
1. a hodgepodge; jumble; confused medley.
2. a ragout or hash.

Another one that comes to mind is ennui:

en·nui [ahn-wee, ahn-wee; Fr. ahn-nwee]

–noun
1. A feeling of utter weariness and discontent resulting from satiety or lack of interest; boredom: The endless lecture produced an unbearable ennui.

Great thread! I love this :D
