Which do you think is the best film trilogy and comments please as to why (not).

I think the Bourne series of films are fantastic and one of the few instances where the middle film is actually the best, in most trilogies of late the middle one comes across as more a linking segment to the whole rather than a good stand alone.
I like also in the Bourne Ultimatum how it links back to events in the past two films and gives the whole series a rounded 'finish', though they have left the option for something further - not sure how that would work with the others though now.

Guess you realised I think the Bourne trilogy is the best at the moment though I obsessed equally over the Matrix and LOTR when they came out.

If missed any options let me know - this was rushed...

Because Harry Potter ceased to be a trilogy once Goblet of Fire came out.

It should be in a seperate poll for best film series. I can't think of any others at the momemt besides James Bond and different horror franchises, which might not be real appropriate to compare to it.

I would have to pick LOTR, but the original Star Wars trilogy is a very close second!

The Bourne Trilogy is great. I really liked all the films, they had good, believable plots, and good tension.

The original Star Wars Trilogy hands down. The LOTR Trilogy couldn't exist if it wasn't for those three films. I like all of the choices a lot, except I have not seen the Bourne films, so I cannot comment.

Well, then explain what do you mean by "The LOTR Trilogy couldn't exist if it wasn't for those three films"

It is pretty much agreed upon in the film industry that the release of Star Wars in 1977 changed the industry and made the types of films being done today possible. Not just from a genre standpoint, but from how it lead to the evolution of special effects and whatnot. Sure, something else may have come along at some point to do this, but Star Wars and George Lucas are credited for it.

I love the LOTR Trilogy and the stories in general. I am just making a statement that is pretty well agreed upon within the industry. In the future, the LOTR Trilogy, along with the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, although not as much as far as story telling, will probably be regarded as the ones that took it to the next level. Some people already believe so.

The Godfather Trilogy, it beats everything on your list by a L O N G way.

I agree that the Godfather Trilogy is the best.

I also loved The Matrix I, with all its implicit references and allusions to Plato, buddhism etc. A very entertaining and intelligent movie. But to me The Matrix II and III were a major disappointment; those were just ordinary gun battle movies in a postmodern sci-fi-ish jacket. They weren't what I expected them to be. As a trilogy I liked Lord of the Rings better.

No way! The glorification of that world is disgusting and should not be allowed on screen. Blech!

Well, that is my opinion anyway. Carry on!

I'd have to say the bourne films were the best.

If you were to poll for movies that went beyond 3, like Rocky, Harry Potter, Bond, etc. I'd say Star Trek!

Yeah, it should really have been "film series" and not pigeon-holed into "trilogy". My answers still stand though. :P

Indiana Jones
Back To The Future
Lethal Weapon
Mad Max

Peter Jackson made some incredibly sophisticated art with LOTR. The others series named are merely movies.
