I called my mother Mummy until I was 9 or 10 when I started calling my parents nothing. I think of her as "mummy" or "my mother". I called her Mrs. Raccoon sometimes when I was a little kid. All the time in kinergarten I called my father Mr. Bear, I accidentally called him Daddy a few times and thought and think of him as Daddy or ocasionally, Papa, or "my father" or "my dad".. Like with my mother, I don't call him anything... haven't since I was 9 or 10 an even before that I was shy to call him anything. :) I find "popsy" cute for him, though, and sometimes considered calling him that or Papa.

For the first fifteen years of my life, I am pretty sure I always called my mom Mom. But somewhere between ages 17 and 18 I think, I noticed that I was calling my mom Mum. Never did find out why I changed it and for a few years, it was always Mum, now I go with whatever pops into my head (pretty much random and interchangeable). I have always called my dad Dad.

Mom and Dad.
to this day, I am unsure what name my mom really goes by. I have always had that trouble... I mean her real name.
Her name is Mary Ester ______(I'm not even sure if I spelled Ester correctly).
I don't know why I have such a block in my mind about it, but I don't know if she likes to be called Mary, or Ester, more.
I know different people have used different names.

Our daughter started out calling us by our first names.
I can't remember when, but maybe around 3rd or 4th grade she started calling us Mom and Dad (we never made an issue about the first name thing), and even then, she got that wrong about half the time! :P

Now, she'll look at me and go, "Mom...uh, I mean, Dad...", and to her mother, she'll do the same, "Dad... uh, I mean, Mom..." :D

Mostly she gets it right though. :D :D

this thread really interested me.

One day I woke up, probably within the first year of giving birth to my first born and decided I would call my mother by her first name. I wasn't comfortable calling her "mom" and 10 years later, I still don't. Her name is Lori. I am fairly certain she tried to swat at me the first couple of times I referred to her as Lori, but that has long since past.

People react in all different ways to my decision to do so and I really didn't give it much thought until people poked and prodded about why I would dare be so bold. So at that time I concluded that I didn't feel she deserved the title...thought that I now knew what it was like to be a mother and decided she did a fairly crap job.

I get now why people were alarmed, but not until this post did it even phase me.

My father is also, just Ed, for much of the same reasons.

How incredibly AS of me...*sigh*

In John Robison's book about his life as an Aspie, he says a doctor his mom, dad and him visited once told his parents to let him call them by any name he wanted... Mom became Slave, and Dad became Stupid. How's that for honesty! :D

Do I dare? I might get into trouble if I write it. Then again, what my parents called me was just as bad.

I call them "mami" and "papi", which is translated as "mommy" and "daddy", but I refer to them as "mi mamá" and "mi papá", which translates as "my mom" and "my dad".
